Amendments in the Regulations for Grading of Public Schools, Staffs, and Salaries of Teachers.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government Buildings at Wellington, this tenth day of December, 1917.

Present:

THE HONOURABLE SIR JAMES ALLEN, K.C.B., PRESIDING IN COUNCIL.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities vested in him by the Education Act, 1914, His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby make the amendments set out in the Schedule hereto in Part III of the regulations made by Order in Council dated the twenty-first day of December, one thousand nine hundred and fourteen, respecting grading of public schools, staffs and salaries of teachers; and, with the like advice and consent, doth prescribe that this Order shall come into force on the first day of January, one thousand nine hundred and eighteen.


SCHEDULE.

  1. SUBSECTION (1) of clause 3 in Part III of the said regulations is hereby repealed.

  2. Subject to the provisions of subsection (7) of section 79 of the Education Act, 1914, the average attendance on which the amount payable for any quarter for or on account of the salary of the teacher of a school of Grade 0 shall be determined shall be the average attendance for the quarter immediately preceding, or the yearly average attendance for the year immediately preceding, or the mean of the average attendance for the four quarters immediately preceding, whichever is the highest; provided that if at the end of any quarter it appears that a higher amount would have been payable for or on account of the salary of the teacher if the amount had been determined on the average attendance for that quarter, then the amount payable for that quarter shall be deemed to be the amount determined on the average attendance for such quarter, and the teacher shall be paid the amount so determined less any amount already paid at a lower rate.

  3. The provisions of clause 2 hereof shall apply, as far as may be applicable, in the case of a new school of Grade 0, and with respect to any such school the provisions of clause 4 in Part III of the said regulations shall be deemed to be modified accordingly.

Regulations for the Protection of Life and Property on Ships.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government Buildings at Wellington, this tenth day of December, 1917.

Present:

THE HONOURABLE SIR JAMES ALLEN, K.C.B., PRESIDING IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS it is enacted by section two hundred and thirty-two of the Shipping and Seamen Act, 1908, that the Governor may from time to time by Order in Council make regulations, inter alia, for regulating matters relating to the protection of life and property of passengers and others on board ships:

And whereas it is necessary for the protection of life and property that the steering-gear of ships should be regularly examined and kept in proper condition:

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, in exercise of the power conferred upon him by the said section, and acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby make the following regulations.


REGULATIONS.

  1. THE master of every ship shall at each terminal port have the ship’s steering-gear properly examined and repaired if necessary.

  2. Any master who fails to have such examination or necessary repairs made shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding £50.
