Arrangements for First Election, &c., Te Karaka Town District.

JOHN GUY APPLETON, Esq., of Te Karaka,
to be Returning Officer to conduct the first election of seven members of the Board of Commissioners of the Te Karaka Town District, as constituted under the Town Boards Act, 1908; also to appoint Thursday, the 29th day of November, 1917, to be the day, and the County Council Office, Te Karaka, to be the place, for holding the said first election; also to appoint Thursday, the 6th day of December, 1917, at half past seven o’clock in the afternoon to be the time, and the said County Council Office, Te Karaka, to be the place, for holding the first meeting of the Board of Commissioners so elected.

Notice fixing the Closing-hours of Booksellers’ and Stationers’ Shops in the Borough of Wanganui, under the Shops and Offices Act.
WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the trades of (a) bookseller and (b) stationer within the Borough of Wanganui, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the borough should be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 6.15 p.m., and on Fridays at 9.30 p.m., with the following exceptions—(1) the period of six working-days prior to the 24th December in each year, when the closing-hour shall be 9 p.m.; (2) Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, when the closing-hour shall be 11 p.m.; (3) should any Friday be generally observed as a holiday in the Borough of Wanganui, the hour of closing on the following Saturday shall be 9.30 p.m.; (4) should any day other than Saturday be observed as a holiday in the Borough of Wanganui, the closing-hour for Saturday shall, subject to exceptions (1), (2), and (3), be 6.15 p.m.:
And whereas the Wanganui Borough Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the trades of (a) bookseller and (b) stationer within the Borough of Wanganui:
Now, therefore, I, William Ferguson Massey, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that on and after the 19th day of November, 1917, all booksellers’ and stationers’ shops in the Borough of Wanganui shall be closed as follows: On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 6.15 p.m. and on Fridays at 9.30 p.m., with the following exceptions—(1) the period of six working-days immediately prior to the 24th December in each year, when the closing-hour shall be 9 p.m.; (2) Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, when the closing-hour shall be 11 p.m.; (3) should any Friday be generally observed as a holiday in the Borough of Wanganui, the closing-hour on the following Saturday shall be 9.30 p.m.; (4) should any day other than Saturday be generally observed as a holiday in the Borough of Wanganui, the closing-hour for Saturday shall, subject to exceptions (1), (2), and (3), be 6.15 p.m.
Provided that nothing in this notice shall permit any such shop to remain open after the hour of 1 p.m. on the day observed as the weekly half-holiday.
The notice gazetted on the 16th day of November, 1916, is hereby cancelled.

Constitution of a Special Roading District in terms of Section 50 of the Land Laws Amendment Act, 1913.
PURSUANT to section 50 of the Land Laws Amendment Act, 1913, and the regulations thereunder, I, William Ferguson Massey, the Minister of Lands, do hereby, on the recommendation of the Land Board of the Wellington Land District, declare the lands referred to in the Schedule hereto to be a special district for the purposes of the said section; and such district shall be known as the Mangao-hutu Special Road District.
