Notice fixing the Closing-hours of Retail Grocers’ Shops in the Ellerslie Town District, under the Shops and Offices Act.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the retail grocers’ shops in the Ellerslie Town District, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the district shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday at 6 o’clock p.m., Friday at 9 o’clock p.m., Saturday at 1 o’clock p.m., and at 9 o’clock p.m. on the evening preceding a public holiday, and at 11 o’clock p.m. on the evenings preceding Christmas Day and New Year’s Day:

And whereas the Ellerslie Town Board has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the grocers’ shops within the Ellerslie Town District:

Now, therefore, I, William Ferguson Massey, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that on and after the 29th day of October, 1917, all retail grocers’ shops within the Ellerslie Town District shall be closed as follows:—On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 6 p.m., and on Fridays at 9 p.m., with the following exceptions: (a) The evening of the working-day immediately preceding any of the following days—Boxing Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Labour Day, the birthday of the reigning Sovereign, and any other day which, pursuant to a Proclamation by the Governor-General or declaration by the Government, or on request of the Mayor or Chairman of the local authority, is generally observed as a public holiday or half-holiday, when the closing-hour shall be 9 p.m.; and (b) the evening of the working-day immediately preceding Christmas Day and the evening of the working-day immediately preceding New Year’s Day, when the closing-hour shall be 11 p.m.

The notice gazetted on the 8th day of December, 1910, is hereby cancelled.

Grant of a Lease of Railway Reserve at Auckland in favour of Millars’ West Australian Hardwoods Company (Limited).

In the matter of the Public Works Act, 1908; and in the matter of a grant of a lease of railway reserve at Auckland to Millars’ West Australian Hardwoods Company (Limited) as compensation for its leasehold interests, as sublessee, in part of land taken for railway purposes.

WHEREAS by a notice under the Harbours Act, 1908, published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 101, of 26th day of August, 1915, page 3031, and deposited in the office of the District Land Registrar at Auckland as No. 3668, all that area of land containing 31 acres 2 roods 16 perches, more or less, being portion of the Auckland Harbour Board’s endowments, Block VIII, Rangitoto Survey District, City of Auckland, was taken for railway purposes:

And whereas the said Millars’ West Australian Hardwoods Company (Limited) is the party entitled to the compensation payable for or in respect of its leasehold interests, as sublessee, in part of the said land so taken for railway purposes as aforesaid:

And whereas the Minister of Railways has agreed to grant to the said Millars’ West Australian Hardwoods Company (Limited) a lease of all that parcel of railway reserve containing an area of 1 acre 1 rood 9 perches, more or less, being parts of Allotments 118 and 119 (comprised in certificate of title, Vol. 260, folio 125), Block VIII, Rangitoto Survey District, City of Auckland, as more particularly shown coloured green on plan numbered 11322 (W.R. 24389), deposited in the Land Registry Office at Auckland:

Now, therefore, I, William Herbert Herries, Minister of Railways, do hereby give notice, in pursuance of the provisions of section 84 of the Public Works Act, 1908, that a memorandum of lease, dated the 22nd day of September, 1917, agreeing to grant such lease to the Millars’ West Australian Hardwoods Company (Limited) has been assented to by me.

PURSUANT to section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that at a poll of the ratepayers of the Kutarere Wharf Special-rating District of the County of Opotiki taken on the 31st day of August, 1917, on the proposal of the Opotiki County Council to borrow the sum of £1,200 for—

  1. Construction of wharf and shed at Kutarere .. £2,750
  2. Cost of raising and payment of interest and sinking fund for the first year .. .. 250

£3,000

Less amount to be provided by the Wha-Katane County Council .. .. 1,800

the number of votes recorded for the proposal was 38, and the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 0.

I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.
