Captain Thomas White Somerville, Unattached List (b), General List, is appointed Assistant Camp Quartermaster, Featherston Camp. Dated 24th July, 1917.

William McNamara, Esq., is appointed Assistant Director of Recruiting. Dated 1st September, 1917.

Lieutenant (temp. Captain) Leslie Miles, Unattached List (a), is appointed Deputy Director of Recruiting. Dated 1st September, 1917.

Honorary Lieutenant Frederick J. Mackintosh, Unattached List (b), is appointed an Attesting Officer under the Military Service Act, 1916. Dated 10th July, 1917.

Captain William Bracewell Mercer, M.B., B.S., N.Z. Medical Corps, is appointed a member of a Special District Medical Board, and granted the pay of Lieut.-Colonel at Expeditionary Force rates whilst so acting. Dated 18th July, 1917.

PROMOTIONS, RESIGNATIONS, AND TRANSFERS.

NEW ZEALAND PERMANENT STAFF.

Staff Sergeant-Major Arthur James King is appointed District Musketry Instructor, Wellington Military District, and is granted the temporary rank of Lieutenant and attached to the N.Z. Staff Corps whilst so employed. Dated 1st September, 1917.

8TH (SOUTH CANTERBURY) MOUNTED RIFLES.

2nd Lieutenant Arthur Ernest Timaru Rhodes to be Lieutenant, under the provisions of paragraph 111, General Regulations, 1913. Dated 4th August, 1917.

With reference to the notification published in the N.Z. Gazette No. 135, of the 1st December, and No. 139, of 14th December, 1916, relating to 2nd Lieutenant (temp.) Hubert Sladden, for the words “20th November, 1916,” read “26th July, 1915.”

The appointment of 2nd Lieutenant (on probation) Horace Campbell Lusty is confirmed.

5TH (WELLINGTON) REGIMENT.

Quartermaster-Sergeant Frank Joplin to be 2nd Lieutenant, supernumerary to Establishment. Dated 27th August, 1917.

14TH (SOUTH OTAGO) REGIMENT.

Captain Stanley Rice, N.Z. Expeditionary Force, is struck off the strength, with effect from 28th September, 1917, and is absorbed into the Establishment with his original rank and seniority therein—viz., Captain, as from the 16th February, 1915 (vide N.Z. Gazette No. 90, of the 29th July, 1915).

Lieutenant Robert Prain Boyne, from the Unattached List (b), to be Lieutenant. Dated 28th August, 1917.

17TH (RUAHINE) REGIMENT.

Captain Bernard John Dudley, M.R.C.S. Eng., L.R.C.P. Lond., is granted the temporary rank of Major whilst doing duty with the Hospital Ship “Marama.” Dated 24th August, 1917.

Captain Henry Hardwick-Smith, M.B., B.S., Camb., F.R.C.S. Eng., is granted the temporary rank of Major whilst doing duty with the Hospital Ship “Marama.” Dated 28th August, 1917.

2nd Lieutenant William Thomas Longhurst, N.Z. Expeditionary Force, is struck off the strength, with effect from 30th September, 1917, and is absorbed with his original rank and seniority—viz., 2nd Lieutenant, as from 26th April, 1917 (vide N.Z. Gazette No. 78, of the 3rd May, 1917).

ERRATA.

The notice published in the N.Z. Gazette No. 112, of the 5th July, relating to 2nd Lieutenant Arthur Briscoe Moore, 5th Mounted Rifles, is cancelled.

With reference to the notification in the N.Z. Gazette No. 132, of 23rd August, 1917, relating to 2nd Lieutenant Eric Frank Borrington Waters, Unattached List (b), General List, for the word “Borrington” read “Barrington.”

With reference to the notification published in the N.Z. Gazette No. 71, of the 19th April, 1917, relating to the Reverend Thomas Bernard Segrief, N.Z. Chaplains Department, delete the words “Dated 12th March, 1917,” and substitute the following : “and returns to duty with seniority as from 5th August, 1914 (vide N.Z. Gazette No. 114, of the 24th September, 1914).
