Special Order made by the Hawke’s Bay County Council
dividing Riding.

THE following special order, made by the Hawke’s Bay
County Council, is published in accordance with the
provisions of the Counties Act, 1908.

HAWKE’S BAY COUNTY COUNCIL.

Resolution (intended to take effect as a Special Order) increasing
the Number of Ridings in the Hawke’s Bay County and the
Number of Members of the County Council’

In pursuance and exercise of the powers in this behalf vested
in it by the Counties Act, 1908, and the Counties Amend-
ment Act, 1913, the Council of the County of Hawke’s Bay
doth hereby resolve as follows :—

That the number of ridings within the county be increased
to ten by the division into two ridings (hereinafter referred
to as “the new ridings”) of the area comprised within the
boundaries of the present Heretaunga Riding.

That the new ridings be named respectively the Here-
taunga Riding and the Poukawa Riding, and that the same
be respectively bounded as shown in the Schedule hereunder
written.

That there be one Councillor for each of the new ridings,
and that the number of members of the Council be increased
accordingly.

That, for the purpose of adjusting the representation of
ridings, this resolution do take effect on the 9th day of
October, 1917.


THE SCHEDULE.

Heretaunga Riding.

All that area in the Provincial District of Hawke’s Bay
bounded as follows :—

Commencing at a point on the Hastings–Maraekakaho
Road intersected by the western boundary of the old Here-
taunga Riding as described in the New Zealand Gazette dated
the 1st day of February, 1883, page 151; thence north-
westerly, north-easterly, south-easterly, and south-westerly
by the south-western, north-western, north-eastern, and
south-eastern boundaries of that riding as described in the
before-mentioned Gazette to the point where the Te Aute
Road crosses the railway at Pakipaki; thence south-westerly
by that road to its junction with the Pakipaki–Stortford
Lodge Road; thence north-westerly by that road to its
junction with the Pakipaki Bridge Pa Road; thence again
north-westerly by that road to its junction with the Hast-
ings–Maraekakaho Road; thence again north-westerly by
that road to the point of commencement.

Poukawa Riding.

All that area in the Provincial District of Hawke’s Bay
bounded as follows :—

Commencing at a point on the Hastings–Maraekakaho
Road intersected by the western boundary of the old Here-
taunga Riding as described in the New Zealand Gazette dated
the 1st day of February, 1883, page 151; thence south-
easterly by the south-western boundary of the new Here-
taunga Riding hereinbefore described to the south-eastern
boundary of the old Heretaunga Riding as described in the
before-mentioned Gazette; and thence south-westerly, north-
westerly, and north-easterly by the south-eastern, south-
western, and north-western boundaries of the said old riding
to the point of commencement.

The common seal of the Chairman, Councillors, and In-
habitants of the County of Hawke’s Bay was hereunto affixed
this 13th day of August, 1917, in the presence of—

The foregoing resolution increasing the number of ridings
in the Hawke’s Bay County and the number of members of
the County Council was duly passed by the said Council at
a special meeting thereof duly called and held in the
county offices in Browning Street, Napier, on Monday, the
9th day of July last, at the hour of twelve noon, and was
duly confirmed as a special order at a special meeting of the
said Council notified in accordance with the provisions of
section 97 of the Counties Act, 1908, and held this day
at the hour of twelve noon in the county offices aforesaid.

above special order as sufficient to render the new boundaries
capable of identification.

Special Order made by the Egmont County Council redividing
Riding.

THE following special order, made by the Egmont County
Council, is published in accordance with the provisions
of the Counties Act, 1908.

EGMONT COUNTY COUNCIL.

Special Order subdividing Existing Rahotu Riding.

In pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred on it by
section 23 of the Counties Act, 1908, and the amendments
thereof, the Egmont County Council resolves by way of
special order as follows :—

“ That the present boundaries of the Rahotu Riding of the
Egmont County be altered by the severance from the present
Rahotu Riding of the part thereof lying southward of the
northern boundary of the Opua Ward of the Parihaka Road
District, that is to say :—

“ All that area in the Taranaki Land District bounded
towards the north-west generally from the sea at the mouth
of the Oaonui River to the forest reserve commencing at the
centre of the mouth of the Oaonui River; thence easterly
by the centre of the Oaonui River to a point in line with the
western boundary of Subdivision 3 of Section 16, Ngatitara
Block, Block 6, Opunake Survey District; thence in a straight
line northerly by the western boundary of the said Subdivi-
sion 3 of Section 16, Ngatitara Block, to the north-western
corner of the said Subdivision 3 of Section 16, Ngatitara
Block; thence in a straight line along the northern boundary
of the said Subdivision 3 of Section 16, Ngatitara Block, and
Subdivisions 26 and 27, Ngatitara Block, Block 6, Opunake
Survey District, and Subdivisions 28, 29, 30, 31, and 32,
Ngatitara Block, Block 7, Opunake Survey District, to the
centre of the Wiremu Road; thence northerly along the
centre of the said Wiremu Road to a point in line with the
northern boundary of Subdivision 20, Ngatitara Block,
Block 3, Opunake Survey District; thence in a straight line
along the northern boundary-line of the said Subdivision 20,
Ngatitara Block, Subdivisions 21 and 22, Ngatitara Block,
Block 3, Opunake Survey District, Subdivisions 23, 24, and
25, Ngatitara Block, Block 4, Opunake Survey District, to
the north-east corner of the said Subdivision 25, Ngatitara
Block; thence by a right line in continuation of the said
northern boundary of Subdivision 25, Ngatitara Block, across
the Forest Road to the forest reserve; thence towards the
north-east generally by the forest reserve to the Taungatara
River; thence towards the south-east generally by the
Taungatara River to the sea; and thence towards the south-
west and west generally by the sea to the place of commence-
ment: excepting from the above-described area the Opunake
Riding, described in Proclamation dated the 2nd day of
April, 1903, published in the New Zealand Gazette (No. 24)
of the same date at page 906.

“ And that the name of the above-described portion of the
existing Rahotu Riding so severed as aforesaid shall be the
Opua Riding, and the remainder of the existing Rahotu
Riding shall retain the name of the Rahotu Riding.

“ And that, for the purpose of adjusting the representa-
tion of the ridings of the Egmont County, this special order
shall take effect as from the 1st day of October, 1917.

“ And the number of members to be elected for the two
ridings above mentioned shall be three members for the
Rahotu Riding and two members for the Opua Riding.”

I hereby certify that the above special order was duly
made by the Council of the County of Egmont at a special
meeting of the said Council held on the 12th day of June,
