ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government House at Wellington, this twentieth day of August, 1917.

Present :

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL IN COUNCIL.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in him by the Public Works Act, 1908, and of all other powers in anywise enabling him in this behalf, His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby order and declare that the portion of road described in the Schedule hereto shall, on and after the date of this Order in Council, become a district road.

SCHEDULE.

ALL the portions of the South Road and the Maungaturoto to Cove via Rowsell’s, situated in the Waipu Road District, Whangarei County, Auckland Land District. Commencing at its junction with the Waipu Cove Road, and proceeding thence generally in a southerly direction, adjoining or passing through Sections 50, 25, 26, 43, 333, Block III ; Section 129, Blocks III and VI ; Section 35, Waipu Kauri-gum Reserve ; Sections 266, 119, 123, 122, 390, 388, 365, 341, 366, 364, 381, Block VI ; and Sections 350, 350A, and 7, Block X, Waipu Parish, Waipu Survey District, to the southern boundary of the last-named section: being a distance of eight miles, more or less. As the said portions of road are more particularly delineated on the plan marked P.W.D. 42726, deposited in the office of the Minister of Public Works at Wellington, in the Wellington Provincial District, and thereon coloured red.

Extension of Time for Preparation of County Rolls, &c., County of Manukau.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government House at Wellington, this eighteenth day of August, 1917.

Present :

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS it has been made to appear that the preparation of the rolls for the County of Manukau, and the taking of certain steps consequent on such preparation, cannot be made and taken within the times mentioned in the Counties Act, 1908, and it is expedient to extend the said times respectively :

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred upon him by the said Counties Act, 1908, and acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby order and declare that the several dates mentioned in the Schedule hereto shall be the respective dates for taking the several steps set out in the said Schedule.

SCHEDULE.

  1. For preparing the rolls for the ridings within the County of Manukau: Until the 22nd day of August, 1917.

  2. Time for which such rolls shall be open for inspection: From the 27th day of August, 1917, to the 15th day of September, 1917.

  3. Time for appeals against the said rolls: Until the 22nd day of September, 1917.

  4. Revision Courts may sit for hearing applications with reference to the said rolls, and adjourn: Until the 29th day of September, 1917.

  5. Time when the said rolls, having been corrected and signed, shall come into force: On the 3rd day of October, 1917.

License authorizing the Christchurch Tramway Board to erect Electric Lines from the Tramway Trolley-wire in Nayland Street, Sumner, to the Town Hall, near the Corner of Nayland Street and Wakefield Avenue, Sumner.

At the Government House at Wellington, this twentieth day of August, 1917.

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS by section two of the Public Works Amendment Act, 1911, it is provided that no person shall lay, construct, put up, place, or use any electric line except under the authority of a license issued to him by the Governor-General in Council under that Act :

And whereas the Christchurch Tramway Board (hereinafter referred to as “the licensee”) desires to erect electric lines from the tramway trolley-wire in Nayland Street, Sumner, to the Town Hall, near the corner of Nayland Street and Wakefield Avenue, Sumner (hereinafter referred to as “the said electric lines”), and it is expedient accordingly to issue a license in respect thereof under the said section :

Now, therefore, in pursuance and in exercise of the powers conferred on him by the said section, and of all other powers in anywise enabling him in this behalf, His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth, subject to the conditions set forth in the Schedule hereto, hereby authorize the said licensee to erect and maintain the said electric lines for the purpose of operating a five horse-power motor generator for the purpose of a picture-theatre at the said Town Hall, such electric lines and the position of the motor being indicated by white lines marked “supply-mains” and “motor” respectively on the plan marked P.W.D. 42234, deposited in the office of the Minister of Public Works at Wellington, in the Wellington Provincial District.

SCHEDULE.

CONDITIONS.

  1. In this license the following words and phrases shall have the meanings hereby attached to them respectively :—

“Earthed” means connected to the general mass of earth in such a manner as to ensure at all times an immediate and safe discharge to earth of electric energy.

“Electric line” means any wire, wires, conductor, or other means used for conveying, transmitting, or distributing electricity for power, lighting, or heating purposes; and includes any instrument, insulator, casing, tubing, pipe-covering, or post enclosing or supporting an electric line, or anything connected therewith.

“Inspecting Engineer” means and includes any Inspecting Engineer appointed by the Minister to inspect the works to be constructed or maintained by virtue of electric-line licenses issued under the Public Works Act, 1908, and any or all of its amendments, or under any one or more of such amendments only, or any Act or Acts passed in amendment thereof or substitution therefor.

“Minister” means Minister of Public Works.

“Telegraph” includes telephone.

“Telegraph line” has the same meaning as “electric line” in the Post and Telegraph Act, 1908, and also includes all telegraph, telephone, and electric signalling wires belonging to the Government Railways Department.

  1. The conductors shall not be less than 7/18 S.W.G. hard-drawn copper wires, firmly attached to porcelain insulators, and erected on supports placed not more than 150 ft. apart. The positive conductor shall be covered throughout, and the covering may consist of vulcanized indiarubber or of triple braiding thoroughly impregnated with weatherproof compound. The negative conductor may be bare.

  2. The conductors shall be carried on substantial and durable supports, which shall be designed to have a factor of safety of four in the case of steel, iron, or ferro-concrete, and five in the case of wood, calculated upon the ultimate strength of the material, assuming the wind-pressure to be 20 lb. per square foot upon a plane surface, and 12 lb. per square foot upon a diametral plane upon a cylindrical surface.

  3. The conductors shall not in any part thereof be at a less height than 18 ft. from the surface of the ground.

  4. A single-pole fuse cut-out shall be inserted in the positive conductor, and arranged to operate with an overload of
