THE following special order, made by the Manukau County Council, is published in accordance with the provisions of the Counties Amendment Act, 1913.

MANUKAU COUNTY COUNCIL.

Notice to Mariners.—No. 71 of 1917.

POVERTY BAY.—GISBORNE HARBOUR LEADING-LIGHTS.

Marine Department,
Wellington, N.Z., 7th August, 1917.

THE Gisborne Harbour Board have notified that on Wednesday, 22nd of August, 1917, the light on the rear leading-beacon (which has been raised from 60 ft. to 80 ft.) will be changed from a fixed white light to a white flashing light, flash showing 0·3 second followed by an eclipse for 0·7 second, or 60 flashes per minute. It should be seen from seaward over an arc of 30° between the bearings of about 352½° (N. 23° W. magnetic) and 322½° (N. 53° W. magnetic), and should be visible for a distance of fifteen miles. The light is an automatic unwatched light burning acetone acetylene gas. The light will now protect heavy-draught vessels from the five-fathoms patch on Kuri Panks, from which the line of obscuration is about seven cables clear.
