PURSUANT to section 40 of the War Legislation Amendment Act, 1916, I hereby notify, for public information, that I have this day approved, for the purposes of the said section, the war funds controlled by the societies named in the Schedule hereto.

Notice of the Taking and Laying-off of a Road in Block XVI, Patetere North Survey District, Auckland Land District.
NOTICE is hereby given, by direction of His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, under the authority of section 14 of the Land Act, 1908, that the road described in the Schedule hereto was, on the 2nd day of June, 1917, duly taken and laid off through the land specified in the said Schedule, under the authority of the Governor of the said Dominion, by Warrant dated the 30th day of May, 1917.
SCHEDULE.
APPROXIMATE area of the piece of land taken for a road: 7 acres 3 roods 26 perches.
Part of southern portion of Section 37, Block XVI, Patetere North Survey District.
In the Auckland Land District; as the same is more particularly delineated on the plan marked L. and S. 16/496, deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands and Survey, at Wellington, and thereon coloured pink.

Contributions to be made to the Hawke's Bay County Council in respect of the Cost of constructing the Port Ahuriri -- West Shore Road and Railway Bridge, and Maintenance Charges.
IN pursuance and in exercise of the powers conferred on me by paragraph (c) of subsection (7) of section 38 of the Reserves and other Lands Disposal and Public Bodies Empowering Act, 1915, I, William Fraser; Minister of Public Works, do by this notice hereby declare that the Hastings Borough Council, the Wairoa County Council, and the Napier Borough Council shall contribute to the amount to be paid by the Hawke's Bay County Council in respect of the cost of the works mentioned in Agreement No. 2 set forth in the Schedule to the Port Ahuriri -- West Shore Road and Railway Act, 1914, as modified by section 38 of the Reserves and other Lands Disposal and Public Bodies Empowering Act, 1915, and to the cost of the maintenance of the surface of the road and footway mentioned in clause 4 of the said Agreement No. 2, in the following proportions — viz., the Hastings Borough Council to contribute 2½ per cent., the Wairoa County Council to contribute 2½ per cent., and the Napier Borough Council to contribute 40 per cent. towards the said amount and the aforesaid maintenance charges.

IT is hereby notified for public information that the Point Chevalier Road Board has, by special order, declared the following weeds to be noxious weeds within the meaning of the Noxious Weeds Act, 1908, in the district under its jurisdiction:—
African boxthorn (Lycium horridum).
Broom (Cytisus scoparius).
Bathurst burr (Xanthium spinosum).
Burdock (Arctium, any species).
Capeweed (Cryptostemma calendulacea).
Dock (Rumex, any species).
Elderberry (Sambucus niger).
Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare).
Foxglove (Digitalis purpurea).
Giant burdock (Arctium majus).
Gorse (Ulex europæus).
Goat's rue (Galega officinalis).
Hakea (Hakea acicularis).
Hemlock (Conium maculatum).
Kangaroo acacia (Acacia armata).
Lupin (Lupinus luteus).
Ox-eye daisy (Chrysanthemum leucanthemum).
Pennyroyal (Mentha pulegium).
Pennyress or Canadian stinkweed (Thlaspi arvense).
Periwinkle (Vinca major).
St. John's wort (Hypericum perforatum or H. humifusum).
Spiderwort (Leycesteria formosa).
Tauhinu, or New Zealand cotton-wood (Cassinia leptophylla).
Thistles: Any species of Carlina (stemless thistle), Carduus (common plume or Scotch thistle), Cnicus (woolly-headed thistle), Centaurea (star thistle), Silybum (milk thistle).
Tutsan (Hypericum androsæmum).
Viper's bugloss (Echium vulgare).
Wild borage (Echium violaceum).
Wild turnip (Brassica campestris).
Winged thistle (Carduus pycnocephalus).

Export of Hemp (Phormium Tenax) to the United States.
Customs Department,
Wellington, 16th July, 1917.
IT is hereby notified for public information that the Minister of Customs has granted general permission for the exportation of hemp (Phormium tenax) to the United States of America.
No application or permit will in future be required. Declaration of ultimate destination must, however, be produced to the Collector of Customs before shipment of the hemp.
It should be understood that this general permit may at any time be withdrawn.

IN pursuance of the provisions of the Public Service Act, 1912, it is hereby notified that at an election held to fill the vacancy on the Public Service Board of Appeal caused through the resignation of Alexander Mill, as representative of the Telegraph Branch of the Post and Telegraph Department, the following votes were recorded:—
