Now, therefore, I, William Herbert Herries, Acting Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that on and after the 9th day of July, 1917, all (a) drapers’ shops, (b) clothiers’ shops, and (c) mercers’ shops within the Borough of Wanganui shall be closed on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 6 p.m., and on Fridays at 9 p.m., with the following exceptions: (a) In the case of clothiers’ shops and mercers’ shops, on the evenings of the last fourteen working-days in the month of December of each year, except Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, when the closing-hour shall be 9 p.m.; and (b) in the case of drapers’ shops, clothiers’ shops, and mercers’ shops, on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, when the closing-hour shall be 11 p.m.
Pursuant to subsection (4) of the said section, nothing in this notice shall permit any such shop to remain open after the hour of 1 p.m. on the day observed as a weekly half-holiday.
The notice gazetted on the 24th day of June, 1909, is hereby cancelled.

Notice fixing the Closing-hours of Hairdressers’ and Tobacconists’ Shops in the Borough of Hastings, under the Shops and Offices Act.
WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the trades of (a) hairdresser and (b) tobacconist within the Borough of Hastings, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the borough shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 6 p.m., and Saturdays at 10.30 p.m.: And whereas the Hastings Borough Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the (a) hairdressers’ and (b) tobacconists’ shops within the Borough of Hastings:
Now, therefore, I, William Herbert Herries, acting for the Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that on and after the 9th day of July, 1917, all hairdressers’ shops and all tobacconists’ shops in the Borough of Hastings shall be closed accordingly.
Pursuant to subsection (4) of the said section, nothing in this notice shall permit any shop to remain open after the hour of 1 p.m. on the day observed as the weekly half-holiday.
The notice gazetted on the 21st day of May, 1908, fixing the closing-hours of all shops in the borough is hereby varied accordingly.
