MEMORANDA.

With reference to the notice published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 126, of 9th November, 1916, Officers proceeding on active service New Zealand Expeditionary Force, delete the name of 2nd Lieutenant Guy Minitte Lucas, Unattached List (b), General List.

Sister H. B. Maberley resigns her appointment in the New Zealand Expeditionary Force and New Zealand Army Nursing Service. Dated 1st January, 1917.

ERRATUM.

The notice published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 4, of 11th January, 1917, relative to Lieutenant-Colonel James Malcolm Mason, M.D., L.R.C.P., Eng., L.R.C.S., Eng., being struck off the strength of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force and absorbed into the establishment, and transferred to the Reserve of Officers, for the words “Dated 12th December, 1916,” read “5th January, 1917.”

Special Order made by the Amuri County Council altering Boundaries of Ridings.

THE following special order, made by the Amuri County Council, is published in accordance with the provisions of the Counties Act, 1908.

COUNTY OF AMURI.

Special Order amending Boundaries of Ridings, under Section 28 of the Counties Act, 1908.

WHEREAS it has been found that the present descriptions of the riding boundaries in the County of Amuri are not sufficiently clear to identify them, the Amuri County Council doth now proceed, by way of special order, under the powers vested in it by the Counties Act, 1908, and of every other power in that behalf it enabling, to amend the boundaries of the ridings as at present constituted, and set out the following boundaries as annexed herewith, in accordance with Schedule bearing the certificate of the Chief Surveyor of the Lands and Survey Department, Christchurch, North Canterbury, to be the new boundaries.

I hereby certify that the above special order was duly passed at a special meeting of the Amuri County Council held on Friday, the 3rd day of November, 1916, and subsequently confirmed at an ordinary meeting of the Council held on Saturday, the 6th day of January, 1917, and the common seal of the Chairman, Councillors, and Inhabitants of the County of Amuri affixed hereon in the presence of

Hanmer Riding.

Commencing at the Tophouse and bounded towards the east generally by the Marlborough, Awatere, and Kaikoura Counties to the north-western corner of Section 126, Square 80, Terako Survey District; thence by that section to the River Lottery; thence by that river, the northern boundaries of Sections 1, Block I, Waiau Survey District, and 1, Block IV, Lyndon Survey District, and the Hanmer River to the western boundary of Lyndon No. 2 Settlement; thence by the western boundary of that settlement to the Waiau River; thence by that river to Section 165, Square 83, Block XIV, Lyndon Survey District; thence across the Waiau River to the Culverden Settlement; thence by the northern and western boundaries of that settlement to the Pahau River; thence by that river to the north-eastern corner of Section 50, Square 104; thence by the northern boundary of that section to Mount Tekoa; thence by the eastern, southern, and western boundaries of Runs 236 and 235 and the southern boundaries of Runs 233 and 233A to the Hope Pass; thence by the Counties of Grey, Inangahua, and Waimea to the Tophouse.

Waiau Riding.

Commencing at the north-western corner of Section 126, Square 80, Terako Survey District, and bounded towards the north by the County of Kaikoura; towards the east and south-east generally by the Counties of Kaikoura and Cheviot to Mount Parnassus; towards the south generally by the Cheviot County and the Waiau River; towards the west generally by the Rivers Mason and Lottery to the western corner of Section 3, Lottery Bush; and thence by the north-western boundary of that section and Sections 2, 1, and 86, Lottery Bush, and of Sections 2 and 1, Annan Settlement, and Section 122, Square 80, to the Lottery River; thence by that river to the south-western corner of Section 126, Square 80; thence by the north-western boundary of that section to the point of commencement.

Rotherham Riding.

Commencing at the north-eastern corner of Section 27, Culverden Settlement, and bounded towards the north generally by the Hanmer, Lyndon, and Waiau Ridings hereinbefore described, and towards the south-east generally by the County of Cheviot to a point in line with the north-eastern boundary-line of Section 53, Square 89, Lowry Peaks Survey District; thence towards the south generally by a right line to and thence by the said Section 53 and Sections 54, 43, 56, 143, 142, 144, 12, 11, 10, 9, and 8 (all in Square 89) to the north-western corner of the last-mentioned section, and thence by a right line to the Culverden Settlement at the north-western corner of Section 247; thence by that section and Sections 246 and 118 to the north-eastern corner of Section 8, Culverden Settlement; thence by Sections 8, 23, and 22 of the said settlement to the south-western corner of Section 26 of the said settlement; and towards the west by Section 27 of the said settlement to the point of commencement.

Pahau Riding.

Bounded towards the northward generally by the Hanmer and Rotherham Ridings hereinbefore described, towards the south-eastward by the County of Cheviot, towards the southward generally by the County of Waipara, and towards the north-westward by the County of Grey.

Lyndon Riding.

Commencing at the north-western corner of Section 122, Square 80, and bounded towards the east generally by the Waiau Riding hereinbefore described; towards the south generally by the Waiau River to the Hanmer Riding; towards the west and north-west generally by that riding to the south-western corner of Section 126, Square 80; and thence by the River Lottery to the point of commencement.

I hereby certify that the descriptions of the Hanmer, Waiau, Rotherham, Pahau, and Lyndon Ridings of Amuri County, herein described, are correct and sufficiently clear to identify the boundaries.

WHEREAS by the Patents, Designs, and Trade-marks Amendment Act, 1914, and the regulations thereunder, it is provided that the Governor in Council may, on the application of any person, and subject to such terms and conditions (if any) as he may think fit, order the avoidance or suspension in whole or in part of the registration of any trade-mark the proprietor whereof is a subject of any State at war with His Majesty:

And whereas application has been made by Henry Solomon Wellcome (trading as Burroughs, Wellcome, and Co.), of Snow Hill Buildings, London, England, Chemist, for the avoidance or suspension of the registration of trade-mark No. 9306, consisting of a label containing the word “Salvarsan” and other matter, registered as on the thirteenth day of January, one thousand nine hundred and eleven, in the name of Farbwerke vorm Meister Lucius and Brüning, of Hoechst a Main, in the Empire of Germany, Chemical Manufacturers, in Class 3 in respect of chemical substances prepared for use in medicine and pharmacy:

And whereas, on consideration of the said application and of the report of James Clark Lewis thereon, the Governor in Council has determined to make such order as hereinafter appears
