CROWN LANDS NOTICES.
Lands in Auckland Land District for Sale or Lease to Discharged Soldiers.
District Lands and Survey Office,
Auckland, 29th August, 1916.
NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned lands are open for sale or lease to discharged soldiers under the Discharged Soldiers Settlement Act, 1915, and the regulations thereunder; and applications will be received at this office up to 4 o’clock p.m. on Monday, 23rd October, 1916.
The lands may be purchased for cash or on deferred payments, or selected on renewable lease, with right to acquire the freehold.
Applicants must appear personally before the Land Board for examination at the District Lands and Survey Office, Auckland, on Thursday, 26th October, 1916, at 10 o’clock a.m. The ballot will be held at the conclusion of the examination of applicants.
SCHEDULE.
AUCKLAND LAND DISTRICT.
FIRST-CLASS LAND.
Matamata County.—Clifford Settlement.
Section 7: Area, 54 acres 2 roods 15 perches; capital value, £760; instalment on deferred payment (without interest), £38; half-yearly rent on lease, £17 2s.
Section 9: Area, 55 acres 0 roods 16 perches; capital value, £770; instalment on deferred payment (without interest), £38 10s.; half-yearly rent on lease, £17 6s. 6d.
Level and undulating land, about 250 ft. above sea-level; watered by Swampy Creek. Each section contains about 30 acres of grassed land. Situated between Tirau and Okoroire Railway-stations. The improvements included in the capital value of the sections are as follows: Section 7, half share in about thirty-two chains of fencing valued at £8; Section 9, half share in about thirty-four chains of fencing valued at £8 10s.
Hobson County.—Kaihu Survey District.
Section 19, Block III: Area, 154 acres 3 roods 24 perches; capital value, £500; instalment on deferred payment (without interest), £25; half-yearly rent on lease, £10.
About 30 acres good river-flat, balance level to undulating; the whole being bush comprising tarai re, kohekohe, nikau, mahoe, kahikatea, and totara; well watered by Awakino River. Five miles from Taita Railway-station by formed cart-road.
Section 2, Block IV: Area, 324 acres 3 roods 8 perches; capital value, £980; instalment on deferred payment (without interest), £49; half-yearly rent on lease, £19 12s.
About 50 acres good river-flat bush, about 120 acres hilly bush, balance flat partly worked-out bush and partly fern and light bush; well watered by Awakino River. Five miles and a half from Taita Railway-station by formed cart-road.
Section 5, Block IV: Area, 217 acres; capital value, £600; instalment on deferred payment (without interest), £30; half-yearly rent on lease, £12.
About 100 acres of river-flat in bush; balance undulating fern, scrub, and worked-out kauri bush; well watered by Awakino River. Seven miles from Taita Railway-station—six miles and a half formed, balance unformed.
Section 6, Block IV: Area, 113 acres 1 rood 27 perches; capital value, £340; instalment on deferred payment (without interest), £17; half-yearly rent on lease, £6 16s.
About 28 acres good river-flat in bush, balance easy hilly country all in bush; well watered by Awakino River. Seven miles and a half from Taita Railway-station, six miles and a half of which is formed cart-road; balance unformed to Awakino Stream crossing, where bridge is to be constructed.
Section 6A, Block IV: Area, 137 acres 1 rood 6 perches; capital value, £400; instalment on deferred payment (without interest), £20; half-yearly rent on lease, £8.
About 6 or 7 acres river-flat in bush, balance easy hilly country all in bush; well watered by Awakino Stream. Access seven miles and a half from Taita Railway-station, six miles and a half of which is formed dray-road, balance unformed to Awakino Stream crossing, where bridge is to be constructed.

About 30 acres good river-flat in bush, 170 acres of bush hilly to undulating, balance fern and tea-tree scrub; well watered by Kairara Stream. Seven miles and a quarter from Taita Railway-station—six miles and a half by formed dray-road, thence unformed; a bridge is to be constructed at the Awakino River crossing.
Section 11, Block IV: Area, 166 acres 2 roods 33 perches; capital value, £840; instalment on deferred payment (without interest), £42; half-yearly rent on lease, £16 16s.
About 110 acres good river-flat from which the bush has been worked, rather wet at times; balance undulating to slightly broken bush land; well watered by Awakino River. Seven miles and a quarter from Taita Railway-station, six miles and a half of which is formed dray-road, balance unformed; thence across Awakino River to be bridged.
Section 12, Block IV: Area, 143 acres; capital value, £380; instalment on deferred payment (without interest), £19; half-yearly rent on lease, £7 12s.
About 20 acres good river-flat in bush; balance easy undulating country, mostly worked-out kauri bush; about 90 acres have been grassed; well watered by Awakino Stream. Six miles from Taita Railway-station by formed dray-road, thence across Awakino Stream by bridge to be constructed.
Section 14, Block IV: Area, 199 acres 3 roods 1·3 perches; capital value, £580; instalment on deferred payment (without interest), £29; half-yearly rent on lease, £11 12s.
About 60 or 70 acres good river-flat in bush, about 30 acres open level to undulating fern land, blance hilly mixed bush and partly worked-out kauri bush; well watered by Awakino Stream. Distant about six miles from Taita Railway-station by formed dray-road.
Ohinemuri County.—Waihou Survey District.
Section 28, Block XIII: Area, 10 acres; capital value, £140; instalment on deferred payment (without interest), £7; half-yearly rent on lease, £2 16s.
Weighted with £30, valuation for improvements consisting of 5 acres cleared and grassed, 5 acres surface sown, half cost of seventeen chains and a half of boundary fencing, and fourteen chains of draining.
All level land of rich black soil, with a growth of flax; about 50 ft. above sea-level. Situated about twenty miles from Morrinsville Railway-station by fairly good coach-road. Access may also be obtained from Patetonga Wharf, about a mile and a half distant by horse tram.
SECOND-CLASS LAND.
Waikato County.—Whangamarino Parish.
Section 515: Area, 353 acres; capital value, £701; instalment on deferred payment (without interest), £35 10s.; half-yearly rent on lease, £14 4s.
Altitude, 200 ft. to 400 ft. above sea-level. Undulating ploughable land, covered with fern and manuka scrub, and swamp in gullies. Soil of fair second quality, on clay subsoil; fairly watered by springs and swamp in gullies. Distant twelve miles and a half from Te Kauwhata Railway-station, of which eleven miles is by metalled road, one mile formed, and half a mile unformed.
West Taupo County.—Wharepapa Survey District.
Section 3, Block II: Area, 1,182 acres; capital value, £1,180; instalment on deferred payment (without interest), £59; half-yearly rent on lease, £23 12s.
Altitude, 300 ft. to 600 ft. above sea-level. Fern and manuka land; about one-third ploughable, balance undulating to slightly broken. Poor soil of a light volcanic nature, on sandstone formation; well watered by small streams. Distant twenty-seven miles from Te Awamutu by formed dray-road, or eighteen miles by wagon-track.
Whangarei County.—Maungakaramea Parish.
Section 135A: Area, 173 acres; capital value, £260; instalment on deferred payment (without interest), £6 10s.; half-yearly rent on lease, £5 4s.
Altitude, 10 ft. to 300 ft. above sea-level. About 6 acres level, 117 acres undulating, balance slightly broken; 60 acres manuka scrub, balance fern and rough feed. Soil poor clay and light brown loam, on clay subsoil; poorly watered, supply failing in dry summer. Fronts main Mangapai—Whangarei Road, a quarter of a mile from Mangapai. Section is also a quarter of a mile from Oakleigh Railway-station, on line now under construction.
Waitomo County.—Pakau manu Survey District.
Section 5, Block X: Area, 355 acres; capital value, £540; instalment on deferred payment (without interest), £13 10s.; half-yearly rent on lease, £10 16s.
Altitude, 700 ft. to 1,300 ft. above sea-level. About 20 acres level land, covered with manuka scrub; 30 acres very rough country, covered with light mixed forest comprising tawa, hinau, rata, rimu, rewarewa, tawhero, &c., with heavy under-
