Lands in Southland Land District forfeited.

NOTICE is hereby given that the leases of the undermentioned lands having been declared forfeited by resolutions of the Southland Land Board, the said lands have thereby reverted to the Crown under the provisions of the Land Act, 1908.

Benmore Runs, Otago Land District, for Sale or Lease to Discharged Soldiers.

District Lands and Survey Office,

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned lands are open for sale or lease to discharged soldiers, under the Discharged Soldiers Settlement Act, 1915, and regulations thereunder; and that applications will be received at the District Lands and Survey Office, Dunedin, up to 4 o'clock p.m. on Monday, 11th September, 1916.

The lands may be purchased for cash or on deferred payments, or selected on lease for sixty-six years, with right of renewal for further successive terms of sixty-six years and a right to acquire the freehold.

Applicants must appear personally before the Land Board at the District Lands and Survey Office, Dunedin, on Wednesday, the 13th day of September, at 10 o'clock a.m., to answer any questions the Board may ask.

The ballot will be held at the District Lands and Survey Office, Dunedin, at the conclusion of the examination of applicants.

DESCRIPTION AND LOCALITY.

Lot 538.—Situated about nine miles from Omarama, where there is a post and telephone office. Omarama is about thirty-six miles from Kurow Railway-station by an excellent road. Access is by a good road for about two miles, after which there is a very fair dray-track. About 1,500 acres is hill country; the balance is flat land, a good proportion of which is arable. The aspect is good, and the soil is a light black loam. Altitude, 1,500 ft. to 2,700 ft. above sea-level. Well watered by a permanent creek. The improvements consist of half value of 196 chains of fencing on western boundary at 13s. per chain.

Lot 541.—Situated about six miles and a half from Omarama, three miles being by formed road and the remaining distance by unformed road. About 1,200 acres is hill, half being dark and half sunny slopes; the rest of the area is flat and terrace land, which is capable of profitable cultivation. Well grassed with tussock and native grasses. The soil is a light black loam, on a shingle and clay formation. The altitude is from 1,500 ft. to 2,900 ft. above sea-level. Watered by springs, and to be supplied with water from branches of Quailburn. The improvements consist of sixty chains of fencing on north-western boundary at 4s. per chain, and sixty-six chains of internal fencing at 12s. per chain.

Lot 542.—Situated about eight miles from Omarama, three miles being by formed road and five miles by unformed road. About 1,300 acres is hill country; the remainder is flat terraces capable of growing crops. Aspect is partly south-easterly and partly north-westerly. Well grassed with tussock and native grasses. The soil is a light black loam, on a shingle and clay formation. Altitude, from 1,600 ft. to 2,900 ft. above sea-level. Watered by springs, and to be supplied with water from the Quailburn. The improvements consist of half value of 236 chains of fencing on north-eastern boundary at 10s. per chain, full value of fifty-four chains fencing on north-western boundary at 4s. per chain, half value of ninety-two chains of fencing on south-eastern boundary at 12s. per chain, and ninety-one chains internal fencing at 12s. per chain.

Lot 557.—Situated about seven miles and a half from Omarama by a formed road. About 350 acres is hill, and the remainder is flat land. Of the flat land 150 acres is excellent arable land, and the balance is somewhat inferior. Well clad with tussock and native grasses. The soil is a light black loam, on a shingle and clay formation. The general aspect is easterly. Altitude, from 1,500 ft. to 3,000 ft. above sea-level. The water-supply is from a race from Benmore Station, but the supply is not very good. The improvements consist of half value of 120 chains of fencing on north-eastern boundary at 6s. per chain, half value of seventy-two chains of fencing on north-western boundary at 13s. per chain, and seventy-three chains of internal fencing valued at £7.

Lot 558.—Situated about six miles and a half from Omarama by a formed road. About 600 acres is hill, and the balance is flat land. 200 acres of the flat is of excellent quality, but the remainder is inferior. Well clad with tussock and native grasses. The soil is a light black loam, on a shingle and clay formation. Altitude, 1,500 ft. to 2,000 ft. above sea-level. Water to be supplied by a race from Quailburn. The improvements consist of half value of ninety-eight chains of fencing on north-western boundary at 13s. per chain, half value of 152 chains of fencing on south-western boundary at 10s. per chain, and ninety-eight chains of internal fencing of no value.

Lot 559.—Situated about five miles and a quarter from Omarama by a formed road. All flat or low terrace land, of
