Situated near the junction of a road to Tarras, from twenty-one to twenty-two miles from the Town of Cromwell, the access from which is by a good road. Tarras School and post-office are about five miles from Section 24, and three miles and a quarter from Section 27. The sections comprise flat and terrace land, which is well clad with tussock and native grasses. The general aspect is westerly and south-westerly. The soil is a light loam, on a shingle formation. The altitude ranges from 900 ft. to 1,700 ft. above sea-level.

Opening National Endowment Land in Nelson Land District for Selection.


LIVERPOOL, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare that the national endowment land described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for selection on renewable lease on Wednesday, the thirteenth day of September, one thousand nine hundred and sixteen, at the rental mentioned in the said Schedule; and I do also declare that the said land shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of the said Act.


SCHEDULE.

NELSON LAND DISTRICT.—WESTLAND MINING DISTRICT.—SECOND-CLASS LAND.

Murchison County.—Tutaki Survey District.

Exempt from Rent for Three Years.

SECTION 3, Block XIII: Area, 659 acres; capital value, £330; half-yearly rent, £6 12s.

Steep broken country, with the exception of small flats along road and river. Good soil on flats, hills very poor; sandstone, resting on granity formation. Part section badly overrun with blackberry on road frontage, and bush in places partly destroyed by fire; balance forest consisting of red and brown birch, with a few pines, with heavy undergrowth of birch, horopito, and five-finger. Well watered by Ten-mile Creek. Altitude, 720 ft. to 3,000 ft. Ten miles from Murchison by good metalled dray-road.

Section 4, XIII: Area, 1,311 acres; capital value, £660; half-yearly rent, £13 4s.

Principally rough hill country, with some good swampy flats along road and river frontage. Fair soil on flats, which are alluvial; hills poor sandstone, resting on granite formation. All in forest, consisting of red and brown birch, with a few odd white-pines and matai, with heavy undergrowth of horopito, birch, and five-finger. Some small patches burnt and not grassed, overgrown with fern and blackberry. Well watered by Mailman’s Creek. Altitude, 800 ft. to 3,000 ft. Ten miles and a half from Murchison by good metalled dray-road.

Section 5, Block XIII: Area, 618 acres; capital value, £310; half-yearly rent, £6 4s.

All hill, with exception of about 20 acres flat and undulating along road. Fair soil, sandstone, on granite formation. All in forest, consisting of birch, with a few odd pines on flat, and heavy undergrowth of horopito, five-finger, and birch scrub. Well watered. Altitude, 800 ft. to 3,000 ft. Eleven miles and a half from Murchison by good metalled dray-road.

Exempt from Rent for Two Years.

Section 22, Block IX: 268 acres; capital value, £130; half-yearly rent, £2 12s.

Greater portion of section is hilly, with small flats on road badly infested with blackberry. Soil fair quality, resting on shale formation. Forest is heavy, and comprises red and brown birch, with a few pines in places; heavy undergrowth of birch scrub, horopito, five-finger, maku, &c. Well watered. Altitude, 700 ft. to 2,170 ft. About six miles and a half from Murchison by good metalled dray-road.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities vested in me by the fourth section of the Cemeteries Act, 1908, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby appoint

THOMAS JOSEPH HENLEY

to be Trustees, in the places of Patrick Henley, John William Overton, and Henry Paterson, resigned, to provide for the maintenance and care of the Lincoln Public Cemetery, in conjunction with Henry Edward Perryman and Henry Exon, previously appointed.

ALL that area in the Westland Land District, containing by admeasurement 4 acres 3 roods 38·9 perches, more or less, being Reserve No. 282A, situated in Block XIV, Wataroa Survey District. Bounded towards the north-east by Section 95, 498·7 links; towards the south-east by Reserve 282, 1000·3 links; and towards the south-west and north-west by Section 95 aforesaid, 499·8 links and 1000·4 links respectively. As the same is delineated on the plan marked L. and S. 2/300B, deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands and Survey, at Wellington, and thereon coloured red.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this twenty-ninth day of June, one thousand nine hundred and sixteen.
