BRITISH COLUMBIA.

VANCOUVER ISLAND.—PORT SAN JUAN.—COLOUR OF GAS AND WHISTLE BUOY CHANGED.

The colour of the gas and whistle buoy moored at the entrance to Port San Juan has been changed from black to black and white in vertical stripes.

Approx. position: Lat. 48° 32′ N., long. 124° 30′ W.

STRAIT OF GEORGIA.—FRASER RIVER ENTRANCE.—CANOE PASS.—BUOY CHANGED.

The black can buoy moored in 20 fathoms off the entrance to Canoe Pass has been replaced by a conical buoy painted red.

COLOUR OF LIGHTS ON GAS-BUOYS AND BEACONS CHANGED.

The characteristics of the lights shown from the following gas-buoys and beacons will be changed, without further notice, from occulting red to occulting white:—

PANAMA.

LIMON BAY.—BUOY REPLACED BY GAS-BUOY.

The buoy marking the 17-foot shoal in Limon Bay, located 2,325 yards 129° from Toro Point Lighthouse, has been replaced by a gas-buoy showing an occulting red light visible 6 miles.

The gas-buoy is cylindrical, surmounted by a pyramidal superstructure, painted red and black in horizontal bands, and is located on the following bearings:—
Toro Point beacon, on end of breakwater 23° 00′
Washington Hotel, left tangent 79° 30′
Toro Point Lighthouse 309° 00′

CANAL ZONE.—MIRAFLORES LAKE.—LIGHT-BUOYS ESTABLISHED.

Two light-buoys have been established in Miraflores Lake; one, painted red and showing a fixed red light, in 30 ft. of water, midway between spar buoys Nos. 4 and 6, the other, painted black and showing a fixed white light, in 40 ft. of water, midway between spar buoys Nos. 3 and 5.

GALLIARD CUT.—LIGHTS DISCONTINUED.—LIGHTS ESTABLISHED.

The lights exhibited from beacons 1 to 22, inclusive, in Galliard Cut have been discontinued, and the canal between these two points has been lighted by 50 lights. These lights are spaced 1,000 ft. apart, and are placed 6 ft. above the water just inside the canal prism, the lights on the eastern bank being white and those on the western bank red.

STRAIT OF GIBRALTAR.

GIBRALTAR BAY.—REGULATIONS WITH REGARD TO EXAMINATION ANCHORAGE.

Position.—South Mole Lighthouse, lat. 36° 7¾′ N., long. 5° 21¾′ W.

1. Mariners are warned that, under no circumstances should vessels anchor to the southward of the southern limit of the area marked “Examination Anchorage” on the charts, and in the event of this anchorage being fully occupied, vessels should remain under weigh outside.

2. When at anchor in the examination anchorage, if, in the opinion of the master, the vessel is in danger during heavy weather or in case of emergency, the vessel may proceed to sea or take shelter off the Spanish coast without permission from the naval authorities being required and without a pilot. Vessels thus leaving the anchorage and proceeding to the Spanish coast are prohibited from crossing a line drawn in 270° (N. 76° W. mag.) direction from the south mole lighthouse until half way across the bay.

Vessels acting under the above circumstances are to return to the examination anchorage as soon as practicable.

SOUTH AFRICA.

NATAL.—DURNFORD.—LIGHT ESTABLISHED.

Position (approximate).—Lat. 28° 55′ 0″ S., long. 31° 55′ 30″ E., on Chart No. 2089.

Abridged description.—(U) Lt. fl., ev. 5 secs., 160 ft., vis. 15 m. (posn. approx.).

Details.—Character: A flashing white light every five seconds—thus, flash ½ sec., eclipse 4½ secs. Elevation: 160 ft. Visibility: 15 miles; from 246° (S. 85° W. mag.), through west to 70° (N. 89° E. mag.).

Structure: Grey steel framework tower, 30 ft. in height.

Note.—The light is unwatched.

Remarks.—The two obelisks situated between the above position and Durnford Point will be removed without further notice, and are to be expunged from the chart.

Variation.—19° W.

WASHINGTON.

PUGET SOUND.—RICH PASSAGE.—BUOY TO BE REPLACED BY GAS-BUOY.

About 10th May, 1916, Point Glover gas-buoy 1 will be established, in 6 fathoms of water, 250 yards 101° 30′ from the present position of Point Glover buoy 1, which will then be discontinued.

The gas-buoy will be cylindrical, with skeleton superstructure, and will show, 10 ft. above the water, a flashing white light of 70 candle-power every 3 seconds—thus, flash 0·3 second, eclipsed 2·7 seconds.

URUGUAY.

MONTEVIDEO.—WRECK REMOVED.—LIGHT-BUOY DISCONTINUED.

The black light-buoy exhibiting a flashing white light, moored 270 yards 340° from the light on the northern end of the west breakwater, to mark the wreck of the “Harley,” has been discontinued, the wreck having been removed.

MALACCA STRAIT.

PENANG HARBOUR.—BEACON ESTABLISHED.—BUOY WITHDRAWN.

1. Beacon established.

Position.—On the northern end of Great Kra Flat, at a distance of 20¾ cables, 161° (S. 19° E. mag.), from Fort Cornwallis flagstaff.

Fort Cornwallis flagstaff, lat. 5° 25′ 16″ N., long., 100° 20′ 48″ E.

Description.—An iron pile beacon with circular top, painted white.
