ridges running from the river to the north-eastern boundary. A few small flats along the Tangarakau Stream, with good building-sites on the south-western corner. The undulating and flat portions comprise about 80 acres. The forest is heavy, comprising tawa, rimu, miro, rata, kahikatea, tawhero, tow hai, totara, hinau, &c., and a dense undergrowth of supplejacks, raurekau, karamu, hoho, patate, konini, tree erns, poro-kaiwhiria, mahoe, pitau, tupari, kiekie, &c. Soil is air on the broken parts and good on slopes and flats, resting on sandstone and papa formation, and the section is well watered. Elevation ranges from 450 ft. to 1,685 ft. above sea-level.
Section 13, Block VII: Area, 315 acres. Rent per acre per annum, 1s. 9d. Capital value, £560. Occupation with right of purchase: Half-yearly rent, £14. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £11 4s.
Section 14, Block VII: Area, 440 acres. Rent per acre per annum, 2s. 1d. Capital value, £930. Occupation with right of purchase: Half-yearly rent, £23 5s. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £18 12s.
Situated on the Raekohua Road. Access from proposed Raekohua Railway-station at Tahora, from two to three miles distant—by dray-road for one mile and balance good pack-track. A railway-station later on will be situated on the front of Section 14. Comprise undulating to broken country, with small flat of about 7 acres on north-eastern end of Section 13, and about 10 acres flat near frontage of Section 14. Covered with a heavy forest of tawa, rimu, rata, tawhero, rewarewa, pukatea, hinau, miro, tow hai, kahikatea, and a dense undergrowth of mahoe, konini, pongas, raurekau, karamu, hoho, patate, supplejacks, makomako, kiekie, tupari, &c. Soil is fair to good, resting on a formation of papa, sandstone, and shell rock; well watered. Elevation, 450 ft. to 1,250 ft.
Clifton County.—Upper Waitara Survey District.
Section 4, Block XII: Area, 794 acres. Rent per acre per annum, 1s. Capital value, £800. Occupation with right of purchase: Half-yearly rent, £20. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £16.
Weighted with £60, valuation for improvements consisting of about 30 acres felled (£45) and 10 chains fencing (£15).
Situated at the junction of the Marco and Mangaowata Roads. Access from Whangamomona Railway-station, about ten miles distant—by metalled road for about four miles and a half, formed dray-road two miles, and 6 ft. track remaining distance. Easy hills to broken country, running up steep from the Mangaowata Road and Stream. The forest is heavy, comprising principally tawa, with a sprinkling of pines, and a dense undergrowth of supplejacks, pongas, ferns, raurekau, mahoe, &c. In addition to the above 30 acres felled, about 20 acres have been felled and not burnt, and are now scrub. Soil good strong loam, on blue-papa formation; well watered. Elevation, 500 ft. to 1,000 ft.
Clifton County.—Waitara Survey District.
Section 12, Block VIII: Area, 525 acres. Rent per acre per annum, 1s. 6d. Capital value, £790. Occupation with right of purchase: Half-yearly rent, £19 15s. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £15 16s.
Situated on the Kohangamoa Road. Access from Waitara Railway-station, about sixteen miles distant—by metalled road for about fifteen miles and a quarter, balance unmetalled 8 ft. road. Urenui Township is about six miles and a half distant. Comprises low-lying but steep country to broken high country and steep ridges. The forest varies from light to heavy, comprising tawa, rata, pukatea, miro, hinau, rimu, rewarewa, tow hai, &c., and a dense undergrowth of mahoe, raurekau, angeange, pongas, supplejacks, ferns, &c. Soil of good quality, on papa formation; well watered. There has been an old clearing on the section, but it is now overgrown and worthless.

Opening National Endowment Land in Auckland Land District for Selection.
LIVERPOOL, Governor.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare that the national endowment land described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for selection on renewable lease on Monday, the twenty-seventh day of March, one thousand nine hundred and sixteen, at the rental mentioned in the said Schedule; and I do also declare that the said land shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of the said Act.

Second-class National Endowment Land.
SECTION 285: Area, 89 acres 2 roods 20 perches; capital value, £235; half-yearly rent, £4 14s.
Altitude, 60 ft. to 200 ft. above sea-level. Undulating to broken country, covered with small fern and manuka, three-fourths ploughable. Brown soil, fair to medium in quality, on clay subsoil; fairly watered by swampy stream. Distant three miles and a half from Albany by good formed road.
