Section 71 is weighted with £50, valuation for four-roomed house.
■Section 69.—Ring-fenced, and divided into five paddocks; about one-half section comprises flat country in grass, balance slightly broken; well watered; loamy soil on shingle and clay formation. Improvements included in the price of the section consist of fencing, sheep and cattle yards, £114 15s.
Section 70.—About 35 acres flat land, in grass; subdivided into four paddocks. On lower terrace slightly broken, with mixed bush and scrub, through which are patches of grass. Improvements included in the price of the section consist of fencing, £75 12s.
■Section 71.—About 25 acres flat; remainder of ground on a lower terrace, and similar to Section 70. Improvements included in the price of the section consist of fencing, £39. Improvements not included in the price of the section, but which must be paid for separately, are as follows: Four-roomed house, valued at £50.
Section 73.—Situated within half a mile of Mangatera Post-office and railway-station, and two miles and a half from Borough of Dannevirke, fronting the main Dannevirke—Napier Road. Mostly level; good soil, carrying good grass. Contains good residence-site.

Small Grazing-runs in Hawke’s Bay Land District open for Lease.

NOTICE is hereby given that the small grazing-runs described in the Schedule hereto are open for lease under the provisions of the Land Act, 1908, and amendments; and applications will be received at the District Lands and Survey Office, Napier, and at the local Lands Office, Gisborne, up to 4 o’clock p.m. on Wednesday, 7th June, 1916.
The ballot will be held at the District Lands and Survey Office, Napier, on Friday, the 9th June, 1916, at 11 o’clock a.m.
Preference will be given to soldiers either discharged or on active service, and to landless applicants who have children dependent on them or who have within the preceding two years applied for land at least twice unsuccessfully. The application of any single man of military age may be refused by the Land Board, unless he can produce evidence of rejection from service by the military authorities.
SCHEDULE.
HAWKE’S BAY LAND DISTRICT.—WAIROA AND OPOTIKI COUNTIES.—TUAHU SURVEY DISTRICT.
SECTION 1, Block II, and Section 1, Block VI, Run No. 114: Area, 2,770 acres; approximate annual rental per acre, 1s. 2d.; half-yearly rent, £83 2s.
Altitude, from 2,000 ft. to 3,300 ft. above sea-level. All hilly country, intersected by gullies and steep bluffs facing the north. Good soil, on papa formation, with warm northerly aspect. The bush is of mixed timber, tawa predominating, with birch on ridges. Access by bridle-track (four miles and a half) and dray-road up Ruakituri River (thirty-six miles from Wairoa).
Section 1, Block IX, Run No. 115: Area, 2,532 acres; approximate annual rental per acre, 6d.; half-yearly rent, £31 16s.
Altitude, from 2,200 ft. to 3,000 ft. above sea-level. More than half is flat, the balance rising steeply to the Ngamoko Range on the south. The soil (generally speaking) consists of a thin layer of bush mould overlying a bed of silver pumice (about 6 in. deep) on clay. The bush is principally birch, with a sprinkling of rimu and kahikatea. Access by bridle-track from Lake House, Waikaremoana (to which coach-road runs from Wairoa), five miles and a half. About 100 acres of the frontage was burnt standing some years ago, and is now carrying fair grass. The whole of this section drains into the Aniwaniwa.

Lands in Southland Land District for Sale or Lease to Discharged Soldiers.
District Lands and Survey Office,

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned lands are open for sale or lease to discharged soldiers under the Discharged Soldiers Settlement Act, 1915, and the regulations thereunder; and applications will be received at this office up to 4 o’clock p.m. on Wednesday, 24th May, 1916.
The lands may be purchased for cash or on deferred payments, or selected on lease for sixty-six years, with right of renewal for further successive terms of sixty-six years and a right to acquire the freehold.
Applicants must appear personally before the Land Board for examination at the District Lands and Survey Office, Invercargill, on Thursday, 25th May, 1916, at 11 o’clock a.m. The ballot will be held at the conclusion of the examination of applicants.

Altitude ranges from 120 ft. to 200 ft. above sea-level. Undulating bush country, old sawmill workings, swampy in places, watered by small streams; soil fair to good; suitable for pastoral purposes, including dairying.
Sections 54 and 56 to 59 are situated within a quarter of a mile of Bush Siding Railway-station, and Sections 60 to 62 within about a mile and three-quarters of Gorge Road Railway-station.
Access by formed roads partly gravelled, except about half a mile as yet unformed to Section 60.
All sections are subject to existing tramway rights until cancelled by the Land Board.
