SCHEDULE.

SOUTHLAND LAND DISTRICT.—SOUTHLAND COUNTY.—HOKONUI SURVEY DISTRICT.—ARDLUSSA SETTLEMENT.

Mixed Agricultural and Pastoral Land.

SECTION 1, Blocks II and III : Area, 5,031 acres 1 rood 6 perches; rent per acre per annum, 8d.; total half-yearly rental, £84.

Open, undulating to hilly agricultural and pastoral land. Subdivided into four paddocks, the eastern boundary being unfenced. 123 acres have been ploughed and sown in turnips, which have to be paid for by the successful applicant; 136 acres in new grass; some 600 to 700 acres are ploughable; the balance is hilly tussock country. Elevation, from 720ft. to 2,050ft. Well watered by permanent streams.

Section 3, Block VII : Area, 1,790 acres; rent per acre per annum, 2s.; total half-yearly rental, £89 10s.

Open, flat, and hilly agricultural and pastoral land. Subdivided into six paddocks, and practically all ring-fenced with rabbit-proof fences. Comprising 345 acres in grass; the balance, 1,445 acres, is mostly hilly tussock country. Elevation, from 600ft. to 1,700ft. above sea-level.

The improvements which go with the sections are as follows: Section 1—938 chains of boundary and subdivisional fencing, valued at £293. Section 3—889 chains boundary and subdivisional fencing, valued at £465 18s.

Ardlussa Settlement is situated from six miles to ten miles and three-quarters from Balfour Railway-station, on the GoreLumsden line.

New Plymouth, 20th March, 1916.

NOTICE is hereby given, pursuant to section 21 of the Land Laws Amendment Act, 1913, that the undermentioned section is open for selection on optional tenures —viz., cash, occupation with right of purchase, or renewable lease; and applications will be received at this office up to Tuesday, 25th April, 1916.

The ballot will be held at this office on Wednesday, 26th April, 1916, at 2.30 o'clock p.m.

Preference will be given to soldiers (either discharged or on active service), and to landless married applicants with children dependent on them or who have within the preceding two years applied for land at least twice unsuccessfully.

MAHOE SURVEY DISTRICT.

Second-class Land.

SECTION 5, Block VI : Area, 783 acres. Capital value, £790. Half-yearly rent: Occupation with right of purchase, £19 15s.; renewable lease, £15 16s.

Weighted with £40, valuation for improvements consisting of two-roomed building (iron roof, and chimney).

Situated on the Whangamomona Road. Access from Whangamomona Railway-station, about six miles distant, by dray-road. The land comprises steep faces and ridges, with about 10 acres of level country between Whangamomona Road and stream at north-eastern corner. The forest is fairly heavy, comprising rata, rimu, kahikatea, tawa, tawhero, hinau, &c., and a fairly dense undergrowth of supplejacks, raurekau, mahoe, kotukutuku, pongas, &c. The soil varies from fair to inferior, resting on papa and sandstone; well watered. Elevation ranges from 400 ft. to 1,400 ft. above sea-level.

Applicants will have to appear personally before the Land Board for examination at the District Lands and Survey Office, Christchurch, on Thursday, 4th May, 1916, at 10 o'clock a.m.

The ballot will be held at the District Lands and Survey Office, Christchurch, at the conclusion of the examination of applicants.

LOT 1 of Section 1, Block XV, and Lot 1 of Section 5, Block XI : Area, 1,396 acres; unimproved value, £8,125; halfyearly rental, £162 10s.

Weighted with £358 13s. 6d., valuation for 483 chains boundary and subdivisional fencing, a set of yards, and 20 acres of English grass.

Nearly all low hills, with small flats up the Chrystal Brook. About 20 acres in English grass, remainder in tussock. Clay soil, on papa formation; well watered. Two miles from Mina Railway-station by good road.

ABSTRACT OF CONDITIONS OF LEASE.

  1. Term of lease, twenty-one years, with a right of renewal from time to time for a further term of twenty-one years, without right to acquire the freehold.
