These lots originally comprised village homesteads in Horopito West Village Settlement, which have now been grouped into larger areas at reduced prices. Situated near the Main Trunk Railway, the access being from the Horopito Station in that vicinity. Distant twenty miles from Raurimu, seven miles from Ohakune, and eight miles from Raetihi. The lots comprise for the most part flat land with light soil, principally on grit formation. The milling-trees have been removed. The climate is severe in winter, and snowfalls are frequent.
NOTE.—Each lot is offered subject to any tramway rights already granted, or that may be granted through it, for milling purposes.
THIRD-CLASS LAND.
Featherston County.—Haurangi Survey District.
Section 3, Block XVI: Area, 2,575 acres. Approximate annual rent per acre, 9d. Cash price, £1,930. Occupation with right of purchase: Half-yearly rent, £48 5s. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £38 12s.
Situated in Haurangi Block, at the headwaters of the Ruakokoputuna and Turanganui Rivers. Access from Martinborough, which is about nineteen miles distant—ten miles by formed and metalled road, two miles by formed unmetalled road, a quarter of a mile formed horse-track, and the remaining distance by surveyed but unformed road. Fairly steep and broken country; about one-third has been fire-swept on various occasions; grass appears throughout the burnt area, other parts are bare and exposed. The soil is of a loose rocky nature (healthy sheep-country), on brown rock and clay formation. The remaining forest is fairly heavy, and comprises rimu, hinau, titoki, &c., with birch on higher levels, and secondary growth in gullies throughout burnt area. Well watered. Elevation ranges from about 1,000 ft. to 3,000 ft. above sea-level. Some fencing has been erected by adjoining owners on south-west and north-east boundaries.

Opening Lands in Southland Land District for Sale or Selection.
LIVERPOOL, Governor.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, having received the report of the Under-Secretary in this behalf, as provided by section one hundred and fifty-four of the said Act, do hereby declare that the lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on Wednesday, the twenty-fourth day of May, one thousand nine hundred and sixteen; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase, or on renewable lease; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of the Land Act, 1908.
SCHEDULE.
SOUTHLAND LAND DISTRICT.
FIRST-CLASS LAND.
Southland County.—Waikawa Survey District.
SECTION 8, Block XV: Area, 108 acres. Approximate annual rental per acre, 1s. Capital value, £108. Occupation with right of purchase: Half-yearly rent, £2 14s. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £2 4s.
Land very broken, and covered with light scrub and heavy bush. Fair grazing-country. Situated ten miles from Waikawa by formed road.
SECOND-CLASS LAND.
Southland County.—Oteramika Hundred.
Section 89, Block V: Area, 193 acres 1 rood 24 perches. Approximate annual rental per acre, 5d. Capital value, £75. Occupation with right of purchase: Half-yearly rent, £1 17s. 6d. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £1 10s.
Level land, peaty and wet; practically open country, the timber having been removed and a fire having gone through it. Situated nine miles from Kapuka Railway-station, post-office, dairy factory, and store—six miles and a half gravelled, two miles formed, and half a mile unformed.
Southland County.—Toetoes Survey District.
Section 16, Block III: Area, 225 acres 0 roods 11 perches. Approximate annual rental per acre, 6d. Capital value, £115. Occupation with right of purchase: Half-yearly rent, £2 17s. 6d. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £2 6s.
Hilly land, mostly covered with light bush. Soil fair to good; about one-half ploughable. Access by formed and partly gravelled road to within four miles, thence unformed. Distance from Waimahaka Railway-station, school, and post-office ten miles, and seven miles from Te Peka Railway-siding.
THIRD-CLASS LAND.
Southland County.—Campbelltown Hundred.
Section 52, Block VIII: Area, 99 acres 3 roods 4 perches. Approximate annual rental per acre, 5d. Capital value, £40. Occupation with right of purchase: Half-yearly rent, £1. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, 16s.
Weighted with £8, half cost of fencing on western boundary. Land peaty and wet, partly covered with manuka scrub. Situated three miles and a quarter from Woodend Railway-station, dairy factory, and post-office, last two miles of road unformed; three miles to a school. Two miles from Waimatua, one mile of road being unformed.
Section 54, Block VIII: Area, 100 acres 1 rood 39 perches. Approximate annual rental per acre, 3½d. Capital value, £30. Occupation with right of purchase: Half-yearly rent, 15s. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, 12s.
Situated four miles from Woodend, last half-mile being unformed; a mile and three-quarters from a school.

Opening Town Lands in Wellington Land District for Selection on Renewable Lease.
LIVERPOOL, Governor.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare that the town lands enumerated in the Schedule hereto shall be open for selection on renewable lease on Wednesday, the twenty-fourth day of May, one thousand nine hundred and sixteen, at the rentals mentioned in the said Schedule; and I do also declare that the said lands shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of the said Act.

WELLINGTON LAND DISTRICT.—WAIMARINO COUNTY.—TOWN OF HOROPITO WEST.
SECTION 2, Block I: Area, 1 rood; capital value, £50; half-yearly rent, £1 5s.
Weighted with £5, valuation for improvements.
Section 6, Block II: Area, 1 rood; capital value, £28; half-yearly rent, 14s.
Weighted with £2, valuation for improvements.
Section 11, Block V: Area, 2 roods; capital value, £45; half-yearly rent, £1 2s. 6d.
Weighted with £3, valuation for improvements.
Section 2, Block XV: Area, 1 rood 35 perches; capital value, £40; half-yearly rent, £1.
Weighted with £3, valuation for improvements.
Situated within easy distance from the Horopito Station, on the Main Trunk Railway. Flat land, felled and grassed. Soil is of a light volcanic nature, on shingle and grit formation. Elevation, about 2,460 ft. above sea-level. The improvements on Section 2, Block I, comprise stumping; on Section 6, Block II, stumping; on Section 11, Block V, clearing and stumping; and on Section 2, Block XV, logging-up.
