Hopetoun Channel.—Port of Geelong.
Notice is hereby given that on or about the 16th February, 1916, the fixed red light formerly exhibited on the No. 1 black beacon, south side of Hopetoun Channel, will be discontinued, and in lieu thereof a red flashing light will be exhibited therefrom.
Charts affected.—Nos. 2731 and 1171B.
Hopetoun Channel Lighting.
Notice is hereby given that, on or about the 8th instant, the temporary light referred to therein will be removed, and in lieu thereof a double-flashing white light will be exhibited from the No. 2 (the easternmost) beacon.
Simultaneously a temporary white light will be exhibited from a punt moored about 600 ft. eastward of No. 4 beacon and in line with the red beacons, and the light on No. 4 beacon will be discontinued.
SOUTH AUSTRALIA.
Spencer Gulf.—Franklin Harbour (Inward Bound).
Masters of vessels and others are hereby informed that the following two buoys have been removed from the Franklin Harbour Channel: Red buoy, midway between Nos. 3 and 5 light-beacons. Black buoy, abreast of the red buoy about midway between No. 8 light-beacon and jetty. Also, that an additional black buoy has been placed about 1,000 ft. south of No. 5 light-beacon to assist in navigating the turning-point.
This affects Admiralty Chart No. 2389, and Survey of Channel dated 1914.
TASMANIA.
Advice has been received that the barquentine “Volador,” which was wrecked at Mussel Roe, north-east coast of Tasmania, on Sunday last, is breaking up. Mariners are cautioned to keep a good lookout for wreckage.
JAPAN.
Gulf of Tokyo.
Notice is hereby given that Ara-su lighted buoy, on the east extreme of Ara-su off Hommoku-bana, has been permanently withdrawn, and at the same time Ara-su lighted submarine-signal buoy moored in the same position.
Notice is hereby given that Kawasaki buoy, S. end of Haneda Spit, Gulf of Tokyo, has been permanently withdrawn, and at the same time Kawasaki lighted buoy moored in the same position.
South Coast, Honshu.
Notice is hereby given that Nojima-zaki submarine-signal buoy off Nojima-zaki Lighthouse, Province of Awa, has been permanently withdrawn.
South Coast, Hokkaido.
Notice is hereby given that the light of Hanasaki Lighthouse, Hanasaki Anchorage, Province of Nemoro, which has not been exhibited during the seven months from 1st May to 30th November in every year shall hereafter be exhibited all through the year.
Shimonoseki Strait.
Notice is hereby given that Moji-ko-Gwai lighted wreck-buoy at Bow, on the outside of Moji Harbour, has been permanently withdrawn, and at the same time Moji-ko-Gwai lighted wreck-buoy at stern has been removed and renamed as follows:—
Moji-ko-Gwai Lighted Wreck-buoy.—Depth of water: About 9 fathoms at L.W.S.T. Magnetic bearings taken from the buoy: Kameyama-miya, N. 30° 10′ W.; Shimonoseki low light, N. 21° 30′ E.; Kojo-yama, N. 71° 30′ E.

LEADING-BEACONS OF KAIPARA HARBOUR.

NOTICE is hereby given that as the small or lower beacon of the leading-marks for crossing the bar in entering Kaipara Harbour has proved to be of no assistance, it will be removed on and after 20th March, 1916.
The leading-marks will then be two instead of three.

HIKUTU ROCK, TOKOMARU BAY.

THE Tokomaru Harbour Board notify that the black can buoy marking Hikutu Rock, Tokomaru Bay, was replaced by a black cone buoy on 15th instant. Magnetic bearings from buoy: Maratiri N. 67° W., distant 2·1 miles; Hikutu Rock S. 20° W., distant one cable.

CROWN LANDS NOTICES.
Domain in Hawke’s Bay Land District for Lease by Public Auction.
District Lands and Survey Office,
Napier, 14th February, 1916.
NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned domain will be offered for lease by public auction at the local Lands and Survey Office, Gisborne, at 11 o’clock a.m. on Monday, 17th April, 1916, under the provisions of the Public Reserves and Domains Act, 1908, and amendments.
SCHEDULE.
HAWKE’S BAY LAND DISTRICT.—WAIKOHU COUNTY.—WAIKOHU SURVEY DISTRICT (OTOKO DOMAIN).
SECTION 28, Block I, Waikohu Survey District: Area, 12 acres 2 roods; upset annual rental, £5.
Situated about two miles from the Otoko Railway-station by dray-road. The section comprises broken hilly land, principally covered with manuka scrub and light mixed bush. The soil is of very fair quality resting on papa formation.
ABSTRACT OF TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF LEASE.

Term of lease, five years, without right of renewal, and subject to termination by twelve months’ notice in the event of the land being required by the Government.
-
One half-year’s rent at the rate offered, together with £1 1s. lease fee, must be paid on the fall of the hammer.

No declaration is required. Residence is not compulsory. The lessee shall, within one year from the date of his lease, have the land fenced with a ring fence, and such fence shall be a sufficient fence within the meaning of the Fencing Act, 1908. No compensation shall be claimed by the lessee, nor shall any be allowed by the Government, on account of any improvements effected by the lessee. In the event of the land being reoffered for sale or lease at termination of present lease, improvements consisting of boundary fencing only belonging to the lessee will be valued, and section weighted with value of such improvements.

Possession will be given on the date of sale, from which date the rent will commence.

The rent shall be payable half-yearly in advance.

The lessee shall have no right to sublet, transfer, or otherwise dispose of the land comprised in the lease, except with the written consent of the Commissioner of Crown Lands first had and obtained.

All persons duly authorized in that behalf shall have free right of ingress, egress, and regress for such purposes as the Commissioner of Crown Lands may deem expedient.

The lessee shall prevent the growth and spread of gorse, broom, and sweetbrier on the land; and he shall with all reasonable despatch remove, or cause to be removed, all gorse, sweetbrier, broom, ragwort, or other noxious weeds or plants as may be directed by the Commissioner of Crown Lands.

The lessee shall destroy all rabbits on the land, and he shall prevent their increase and spread to the satisfaction of the Commissioner of Crown Lands.

The lessee to pay all rates, taxes, and other assessments that may become due or payable.
-
No native bush to be felled, destroyed, or removed without the consent in writing of the Commissioner of Crown Lands.

The lease shall be liable to forfeiture in case the lessee shall fail to fulfil any of the conditions of the lease within thirty days after the date on which the same ought to be fulfilled.
