The excess of the arrivals in New Zealand over the departures therefrom during the month of January, 1916, was therefore 1,093 persons, as against 1,391 in the corresponding month of 1915.

Education Act, 1914.—Election of Member of the General Council of Education to fill Extraordinary Vacancy.

Education Department,
Wellington, 12th February, 1916.

AN election of a member to fill an extraordinary vacancy on the General Council of Education will be held on the 24th March, 1916. The poll will close at 5 o’clock on that day. The electors are to consist of the certificated male teachers of public schools in the South Island. The roll will close on 4th March, 1916. Nominations will be received up till 4th March, 1916.

Supply of Helmets for Police Force.—Tender accepted.

THE tender of Messrs. Charles Hill and Sons, Lambton Quay, Wellington, for the supply of helmets for the New Zealand Police Force for a period of three years from the 1st February, 1916, at 11s. 6d. per blue helmet, and 10s. 6d. per white helmet, has been accepted.

Sale of Unclaimed Property.

IT is hereby notified that the undermentioned unclaimed property in the hands of the police at the stations named will, if not claimed before the 8th March, 1916, be sold thereafter by public auction. Particulars as to the time and place of sale may be obtained from the officer of police in charge of the station:—
