Now, therefore, I, William Herbert Herries, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that on and after the 27th day of December all shops in the Wairo Riding of Wallace County shall be closed in the evening of every working-day at 9 p.m.: Provided that nothing in this notice shall permit any such shop to remain open after the hour of 1 p.m. on the day observed as the weekly half-holiday.
The notice gazetted on the 17th December, 1914, is hereby cancelled.

Notice fixing the Closing-hours of Butchers’ Shops in the City of Christchurch under the Shops and Offices Act.
WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the butchers’ shops in the City of Christchurch (excepting those shops wherein no meat is offered for sale other than pork, bacon, or small goods, and known as “pork-shops”), has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the city should be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: At 5 p.m. on four nights of the week, at 1 p.m. on the statutory half-holiday, at 6 p.m. on one night of the week, and at 9 p.m. on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve:
And whereas the Christchurch City Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the butchers’ shops (excepting those shops wherein no meat is offered for sale other than pork, bacon, or small goods, and known as “pork-shops”) in the City of Christchurch:

Pursuant to subsection (4) of the said section, nothing in this notice shall permit any shop to remain open after the hour of 1 p.m. on the day observed as the weekly half-holiday.
The notice gazetted on the 17th October, 1912, is hereby cancelled.

Rules for the Examination of Masters, Mates, and Engineers.
Marine Department,
Wellington, N.Z., 18th December, 1916.
WHEREAS by Warrant dated the 27th day of October, 1916, and published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 124, of the 2nd day of November following, additional rules were made for the examination of masters, mates, and engineers, requiring that a candidate should be a British subject, and that at the time of his birth each of his parents was a British subject by birth or by naturalization in New Zealand:
And whereas it is desirable to amend these rules:
Now, therefore, in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority conferred upon me by section 23 of the Shipping and Seamen Act, 1908, and of all other powers and authorities enabling me in that behalf, I do hereby revoke clause 2 of the hereinbefore-mentioned rules, and do make and substitute the following clause therefor:—
“2. In order to prove that he complies with these conditions, every candidate for any of the certificates named must produce to the Examiner of Masters, Mates, or Engineers his own birth certificate, and the birth certificate or certificate of naturalization of each of his parents, or such other evidence of nationality as the Minister of Marine may consider satisfactory.”

IT is hereby notified for public information that the Dunedin City Council has, by special order, declared gorse, elderberry, and broom to be noxious weeds within the meaning of the Noxious Weeds Act, 1908, in the City of Dunedin.

Prohibition of Money-order and Postal Correspondence for H. E. Kugelman.
THE Postmaster-General of the Dominion of New Zealand having reasonable ground for supposing that the person whose name is shown in the Schedule hereunder is engaged in a fraudulent undertaking, it is hereby ordered, under section 28 of the Post and Telegraph Act, 1908, that no money-order in favour of the said person shall be issued, and that no postal packet addressed to the said person (either by his own or any fictitious or assumed name), shall be registered, forwarded, or delivered by the Post Office of New Zealand.
