With reference to the notice published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 116, of 12th October, 1916, relative to temp. Major Carrick Robertson, M.B., F.R.C.S., having completed his tour of duty and struck off the strength of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force and New Zealand Medical Corps, for the words “Dated 3rd October, 1916,” read “20th October, 1916.”

Disbandment of Defence Rifle Club.

Special Order made by the Mount Wellington Road Board making By-laws.

THE following special order, made by the Mount Wellington Road Board, is published in accordance with the provisions of the Road Boards Act, 1908.

MOUNT WELLINGTON ROAD BOARD.

Special Order making By-law.

In exercise of the powers conferred on it by the Motor Regulation Act, 1908, and every other Act it hereunto enabling, and being satisfied that the use of motors upon the portion of the Great South Road traversed by the railway-crossing hereinafter mentioned, and extending westward and eastward therefrom for one hundred yards in either direction, would be attended with risk of danger to the public, the Mount Wellington Road Board makes the following by-law, and directs that the same shall come into force on the date of the publication thereof in the New Zealand Gazette:—

  1. The railway-crossing referred to in this by-law is the portion of the Great South Road across which runs the Westfield Freezing Company’s (Limited) railway-siding connecting the said company’s works with the Auckland-Waikato Railway.

  2. Every person in charge of a motor or driving a motor on or along the Great South Road shall (when approaching such railway-crossing) slacken speed when within one hundred yards of the crossing to a rate not exceeding ten miles an hour, and shall (when a locomotive or train is approaching or at the crossing) stop before coming into contact with the railway-line. He shall also keep a vigilant look-out for approaching trains, and shall not attempt to pass over the crossing unless the line is clear, and shall not pass over such crossing at a greater speed than ten miles an hour.

  3. Every person guilty of a breach of any of the provisions of this by-law shall be liable to a penalty not exceeding £5.

The resolution to make the above special order was duly passed at a special meeting of the Mount Wellington Road Board held on the 10th day of October, 1916, and duly confirmed at a subsequent meeting thereof held on the 28th day of November, 1916.

The common seal of the Inhabitants of the Mount Wellington Road District was hereto affixed at such confirmatory meeting, and by order of the Mount Wellington Road Board, in the presence of—
