Date of Election to fill Extraordinary Vacancy in Hamilton Fire Board by Fire-insurance Companies.

Wellington, 4th December, 1916.

PURSUANT to the Fire Brigades Act, 1908, and the rules made thereunder, I, George Warren Russell, Minister of Internal Affairs, being the Minister charged with the administration of the said Act, do hereby appoint Tuesday, the 19th day of December, 1916, to be the day for holding an election of one member of the Hamilton Fire Board by the fire-insurance companies concerned, such election being held to fill the extraordinary vacancy caused by the resignation of Mr. Norman Robert Mackintosh.

Notice fixing the Closing-hours of Hairdressers' and Tobacconists' Shops in the Borough of Invercargill, under the Shops and Offices Act.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the trades of (a) hairdresser and (b) tobacconist within the Borough of Invercargill, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the borough should be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, 7 p.m.; Saturdays, 10.30 p.m.; except during the period from the 11th day of December to the 3rd day of January inclusive, when the hour of closing shall be 9 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, and 10.30 p.m. on Saturdays; Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve to be exempt:

And whereas the Invercargill Borough Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the trades of (a) hairdresser and (b) tobacconist within the Borough of Invercargill :

Now, therefore, I, William Herbert Herries, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that on and after the 11th day of December, 1916, all hairdressers’ and tobacconists’ shops in the Borough of Invercargill shall be closed accordingly:

Provided that nothing in this notice shall permit any such shop to remain open after the hour of 1 p.m. on the day observed as the weekly half-holiday.

The notice gazetted on the 22nd October, 1908, is hereby cancelled.

NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the provisions of the Public Works Act, 1908, to execute a certain public work—to wit, the construction of a road in Block XV, Aria Survey District; and for the purposes of such public work the land described in the Schedule hereto is required to be taken. And notice is hereby further given that the plan of the land so required to be taken is deposited in the post-office at Nihoniho, and is there open for inspection; and that all persons affected by
