THE NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE.

The front light is exhibited, 20 ft. above the water, on the southern island. The rear light is exhibited, 30 ft. above the water, on the northern island. The two lights in line bear 330°.

Approximate position of front light, latitude 8° 7′ N., longitude 82° 14′ W.

CANAL ZONE.—GATUN LAKE.—INFORMATION CONCERNING BUOYS.—Notice is given that the characteristics of the lights on gas-buoys Nos. 4, 8, and 22 have been changed from flashing to fixed.

Buoys Nos. 6 and 10 are red spars.

BALBOA HARBOUR ENTRANCE.—CHARACTERISTICS OF LIGHTS ON GAS-BUOYS.—Notice is given that the lights on gas-buoys Nos. 1 and 2, at the entrance to the channel leading to Balboa, are flashing and not fixed.

BRAZIL.

RIO DE JANEIRO BAY.—FISCAL (RAT) ISLAND.—WRECK NORTH-EASTWARD.—The wreck of the steamer “Wilhelmina,” no portion of which is visible above water, lies sunk about 950 yards north-eastward of Fiscal (Rat) Island and 0·94 mile 33° from Calhabouco Point Lighthouse.

The wreck is marked by a green conical buoy.

Approx. position: Lat. 22° 53′ 30″ S., long. 43° 9′ 30″ W.

NOTE.—This wreck does not constitute a menace to navigation, as there is a least depth of 12 fathoms over it. Vessels are, however, cautioned against anchoring in the immediate vicinity on account of the danger of fouling their anchors.

CHINA.

EAST COAST.—SADDLE GROUP.—NORTH SADDLE ISLAND LIGHT.—REPLACED BY TEMPORARY LIGHT.

Position.—Lat. 30° 51⅜′ N., long. 122° 40¼′ E.

Details.—The revolving white light has been discontinued whilst a new permanent light is being installed, during which period a temporary light of the undermentioned description is being exhibited from the gallery on the northern side of the existing tower:—

A flashing white light every three seconds—thus, flash 0·3 sec., eclipse 2·7 secs.

Note.—Further notice will be given when the new permanent light has been established.

JAPAN.

ENTRANCE TO NAGASAKI HARBOUR.

Notice is hereby given that Osone buoy, on the Shoal Osone, entrance to Nagasaki Harbour, was permanently withdrawn at the beginning of October, and at the same time Osone lighted buoy was moored in the same position.

Osone Lighted Buoy.

Description.—Iron frustum of cone, red and black horizontal bands, surmounted by a lattice work supporting a lantern.

Height of Light.—12 shaku.

Character of Light.—Acetylene gas flashing white, showing one flash every 3 seconds.

Illuminated Arc.—The whole horizon.

Power.—100 candles.

Visible Distance.—8 miles in clear night.

SOUTH PACIFIC OCEAN.

FIJI ISLANDS.—OVALAU ISLAND.—LEVUKA HARBOUR.—POSITION OF LIGHT.

The light on the southern side of Na Tumbari or South Pass is about 40 yards 267° from the perch beacon on Mbalavu Reef.

Approx. position: Lat. 17° 41′ S., long. 178° 50′ 45″ E.

NEW SOUTH WALES.

UNCHARTED DANGER NEAR ULLADULLA HARBOUR.

Notice is hereby given that an uncharted reef exists in lat. 35° 21′ S., long. 150° 31¼′ E. on the bearings—

North Head, Ulladulla, 227° (S. 37° W. magnetic).

Warden Head Lighthouse, 182½° (S. 7½° E. magnetic).

The reef (on which the sea breaks occasionally) is formed mostly of pinnacles, and is about 3½ acres in extent. It carries a minimum depth of 12 ft. at low-water springs.

Chart affected: Admiralty Chart No. 1018, Montagu Island to Beecroft Head,

THE Postmaster-General of the Dominion of New Zealand having reasonable ground for supposing that the company whose name and address are shown in the Schedule hereunder is engaged in advertising the treatment of disease of the sexual organs, it is hereby ordered, under section 28 of the Post and Telegraph Act, 1908, that no money-order in favour of the said company shall be issued, and that no postal packet addressed to the said company or to the Manager, Secretary, or other officer thereof shall be either registered or forwarded by the Post Office of New Zealand.

CROWN LANDS NOTICES.

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned lease having been declared forfeited by resolution of the Hawke’s Bay Land Board, the said land has thereby reverted to the Crown under the provisions of the Discharged Soldiers Settlement Act, 1915, and the regulations made thereunder.

Lands in Otago Land District for Sale or Lease to Discharged Soldiers.

District Lands and Survey Office,

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned lands are open for sale or lease to discharged soldiers under the Discharged Soldiers Settlement Act, 1915, and the regulations thereunder; and applications will be received at the District Lands and Survey Office, Dunedin, up to 4 o’clock p.m. on Monday, 8th January, 1917.

The land in the First Schedule may be purchased for cash or on deferred payments, or selected on lease for thirty-three years, with right of renewal for further successive terms of thirty-three years and a right to acquire the freehold.

The lands in the Second Schedule may be purchased for cash or on deferred payments, or selected on lease for sixty-six years, with right of renewal for further successive terms of sixty-six years and a right to acquire the freehold.

Applicants must appear personally before the Land Board for examination at the District Lands and Survey Office, Dunedin, on Wednesday, 10th January, 1917, at 10 o’clock a.m.

The ballot will be held at the conclusion of the examination of applicants.

FIRST SCHEDULE.

SETTLEMENT LAND.—OTAGO LAND DISTRICT.

Clutha County.—Otanomomo Settlement.

SECTION 9A: Area, 85 acres 2 roods 30 perches; capital value, £1,460; half-yearly instalment on deferred payment (without interest), £73; half-yearly rent on lease, £32 17s.

Weighted with £133 4s., valuation for improvements consisting of cow-byre, fencing, clearing, and cultivation.

Situated on Clutha River flats, about four miles downstream from Balclutha. There is a formed road past the section, and a school and a dairy factory within half a mile. The soil is a rich black loam on river-silt formation, and is capable of producing excellent root crops and grass. There
