Notice to Mariners No. 78 of 1916.
NELSON HARBOUR.—DISCONTINUANCE OF OLD ENTRANCE BEACONS.

Wellington, N.Z., 9th October, 1916.
THE Nelson Harbour Board have notified that, as the old harbour entrance is now never used, the leading-light beacons on Haulashore Island, and the cage beacon and light on the north side of the entrance opposite the Arrow Rock, will be discontinued on and after Monday, the 16th October, 1916.
Charts, &c., affected: Admiralty Charts Nos. 2185 and 2616; “New Zealand Pilot,” eighth edition, 1908, Chapter vi, pp. 188 and 189; “New Zealand Nautical Almanac,” 1916, page 325.

THE following Notices to Mariners, received from the Hydrographic Office, London; the Hydrographic Office, Washington; the Acting Governor, Balboa Heights, C.Z.; and the Department of Trade and Customs, Melbourne, are published for general information.

PANAMA CANAL.
RATES FOR FLOATING EQUIPMENT.
THE following rates are established, effective 15th August, 1916, for services rendered to individuals and companies and others for crane-boats, tugs, clapets, launches, barges, and other floating equipment:—

Floating Cranes.—(a.) Rates to individuals and companies and others for floating cranes will be furnished upon application to the Resident Engineer, Dredging Division.

Crane-boats.—(a.) For services of crane-boat “La Valley,” first hour $20.00
Each succeeding half-hour or fraction thereof 10.00
(b.) For services of derrick-barge, first hour 15.00
Each succeeding half-hour or fraction thereof 7.50 -
Tugs.—(a.) For services of all tugs, excepting during maintenance work in Gaillard Cut, and until normal conditions obtain, unless the size of a vessel or condition of her operating machinery or steering qualities be such that a tug would be required to ensure safety in navigating Gaillard Cut, provided the Canal were completed to its designated size, and excepting as specified in sections (b), (d), and (e) hereof, first hour $15.00
For each succeeding quarter-hour or fraction thereof 3.75
(b.) For towage through the Canal from or to either entrance to the Canal, anchorage in harbour, or dock, whether loaded or in ballast, per net vessel ton, Panama Canal measurement 0.10
Per displacement ton, Panama Canal measurement 0.04
Minimum charge for each vessel towed 150.00
(c.) The Canal authorities reserve the right to tow vessels having a tonnage of 1,500 net tons or less, Panama Canal measurement, through the Canal at the rates specified in paragraph (b), at the convenience of the Canal; also the right to take more than one vessel at one time.
(d.) For tugs “De Lesseps” or “Sanidad,” first hour 10.00
For each succeeding quarter-hour or fraction thereof 2.50
(e.) For tugs “Balboa,” “Birdeña,” “Coco Solo,” or “No. 26,” first hour 7.50
For each succeeding half-hour or fraction thereof 3.75 -
Clapets.—Rates for clapets, same as for tugs “De Lesseps” and “Sanidad.”

Launches.—(a.) For Class A launches, “Aspinwall,” “Margarita,” “Patrol,” “Pioneer,” “Search,” or “Taboga,” first hour 5.00
For each succeeding half-hour or fraction thereof 2.50
(b.) For Class B launches, “Atlantic,” “Barbacoas II,” “La Zona,” “Lirio,” “Mary B,” “Mary S,” “Pacific,” “Pilot,” “Pratique,” “Priscilla,” “Psyche,” “Ruth,” “Santa Rita,” or “Vedette,” first hour 3.00
For each succeeding half-hour or fraction thereof 1.50
(c.) For Class C launches, “Aranal,” “Azimuth II,” “Bonito,” “Chilibre,” “Flamenco,” “Luis,” “Margaret,” “Snail,” Nos. 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12, first hour 2.00
For each succeeding half-hour or fraction thereof 1.00
Charges to Panama Canal or Panama Railroad employees will be 70 per cent. of the above rates. -
Barges.—(a.) For Class A barges having a capacity of over 2,799 cubic feet, first day.. 30.00
