Notice under the War Regulations declaring a certain Company to be an Enemy.

I, ALEXANDER LAWRENCE HERDMAN, His Majesty’s Attorney-General for the Dominion of New Zealand, being satisfied that the company mentioned in the Schedule hereto is carrying on business to a substantial extent for the benefit of alien enemies resident out of New Zealand, do hereby, in pursuance of clause 20 of the War Regulations made on the 3rd day of April, 1916, under the War Regulations Act, 1914, declare the company so mentioned in the Schedule hereto to be an enemy.

Notice fixing the Closing-hours of (a) Hairdressers’ and (b) Tobacconists’ Shops in the Borough of New Plymouth, under the Shops and Offices Act.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the (a) hairdressers’ shops and (b) tobacconists’ shops within the Borough of New Plymouth, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the borough shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: Monday 8 p.m., Tuesday 6 p.m., Wednesday 8 p.m., Friday 6 p.m., and Saturday 10 p.m., with the exception of Christmas and New Year’s Eves, when the closing-hour shall be 11 p.m.; provided that any occupier who observes Saturday as the statutory half-holiday shall be entitled to keep his shop open until 6 p.m. on the Thursday night and until 10 p.m. on the Friday night; provided further that when any day is generally observed as a holiday in the borough, any occupier whose shop is usually closed on some other day may remain open on the latter day until the hour fixed by this notice for the day on which the holiday is observed, provided that his shop is closed not later than 1 p.m. on the holiday:

And whereas the New Plymouth Borough Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the (a) hairdressers’ and (b) tobacconists’ shops within the Borough of New Plymouth:

Now, therefore, I, William Herbert Herries, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that on and after the 9th day of October, 1916, all such shops shall be closed as follows: Mondays 8 p.m., Tuesdays 6 p.m., Wednesdays 8 p.m., Fridays 6 p.m., and Saturdays 10 p.m., with the exception of Christmas and New Year’s Eves, when the closing-hour shall be 11 p.m.; provided that for a shop that is closed for the statutory half-holiday on Saturdays the closing-hour on Thursdays shall be 6 p.m. and the closing-hour on Fridays shall be 10 p.m.; provided further that when any day is generally observed as a holiday in the Borough of New Plymouth, any occupier whose shop is usually closed for the statutory half-holiday on some other day may remain open on the latter day until the hour fixed by the notice for the day on which the holiday is observed, provided that his shop is closed not later than 1 p.m. on the holiday.

The notice gazetted on the 25th April, 1907, is hereby cancelled.

THE following notice, received from the Mayor of the Council of the Borough of Miramar, is published in accordance with the provisions of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913.

MIRAMAR BOROUGH COUNCIL.

Notice of Result of Poll on Loan.

In the matter of the Municipal Corporations Act, 1908, the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, and the Acts amending the same respectively.

I HEREBY give notice that on the 27th day of September, 1916, a proposal was submitted by the Miramar Borough Council to the ratepayers of the Borough of Miramar for raising a special loan of £4,500 for the purpose of the protection and improvement of Marine Parade; and that the number of votes recorded respectively for and against the proposal was as follows: For, 79; against, 78; informal, nil.

And I declare the said proposal to be carried.

WANGANUI BOROUGH COUNCIL.

Notice under Section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913.

I HEREBY publicly notify that at the poll taken on the 8th day of September, 1916, on the proposal of the Wanganui Borough Council to borrow the sum of £25,000 for the following purposes, and for all matters incidental or relating thereto, that is to say,—

(1.) Providing drainage in extension of existing drainage in the Borough of Wanganui, and providing new sewers, replacing old sewers, extending existing sewers, providing street sumps and drainage-pipes, and laying drainage-pipes in the streets of the borough, and all appliances, plant, and things necessary or convenient therefor: £11,500

(2.) Providing and laying water-mains in the streets of the said borough, and extending and replacing existing water-mains in the said streets, and providing all machinery, appliances, plant, apparatus, appurtenances, and things necessary or convenient therefor in connection with the present “waterworks” (as defined in section 229 of the Municipal Corporations Act, 1908) of the borough, and extending, enlarging, and augmenting the waterworks or water service in the said borough: £4,500
