Amendments in the Regulations for the Examination and
Classification of Teachers and for Junior and Senior
National Scholarships.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House at Wellington, this eleventh day
of September, 1916.
Present:
HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities
vested in him by the Education Act, 1914, His Excel-
lency the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, acting
by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council
of the said Dominion, doth hereby make the amendments set
out in the First Schedule hereto in the regulations in force
relating to the examination and classification of teachers;
also the amendments set forth in the Second Schedule
hereto in the regulations in force relating to Junior and
Senior National Scholarships; and doth prescribe that this
Order shall come into force on the date of the first publication
thereof in the New Zealand Gazette.
FIRST SCHEDULE.
TEACHERS' EXAMINATION AND CLASSIFICATION
REGULATIONS.
CLAUSES 24, 25, and 33 of the said regulations are hereby
cancelled, and the following substituted therefor:—
24. A candidate may, at one time, take the examination
as a whole, or may take the subjects constituting any three
groups, or any two groups, or any one group, as set out in
clause 22. The groups may be taken in any order, but all
the subjects constituting any group must be taken at the
same time.
25. A candidate shall be held (a) to have passed in any
group when he has, at one and the same time, satisfied the
requirements for that group; and (b) to have obtained a
partial pass in any group if he fails to satisfy the requirements
in that group by reason of weakness in one subject only,
provided that no credit will be given for success in the
examination unless a candidate, at one and the same time,
satisfies the requirements for at least one group, or obtains
partial success in at least two groups. A candidate may
subsequently complete his pass in a group, for which he has
been credited with a partial pass, by passing in the subject
in which he has failed.
A candidate who under earlier regulations has been credited
with a pass or a partial pass in any section of Class D shall
be credited with a pass or a partial pass, as the case may be,
in the group or groups corresponding to that section.
A candidate who has since the 1st July, 1914, obtained a
partial pass in the first section of Class D, and who, had
this clause been in operation, would have, at the same time
or subsequently, obtained a partial pass in any group of
subjects, may, on application to the Director of Education,
receive credit for such partial pass, and may complete his
pass by passing in the subject in which he has failed.
- With every application to be examined for or towards
Class D the following fees for entries permitted by clauses 24
and 25 of these regulations shall be payable by the candidate
in the manner specified in clause 18 hereof:—
(a.) For the whole examination taken at one £ s. d.
time, or for two or more groups .. 1 0 0
(b.) For any one group .. .. .. 0 10 0
(c.) For each subject to complete a partial pass
in a group .. .. .. 0 5 0
Provided that the maximum fee payable in any case shall
not exceed £1.
Clause 34 is hereby amended by deleting from paragraph (i)
thereof the words "the first section."
Clause 39 is hereby amended by deleting the words "the
first and second sections of."
Clause 48 is hereby amended by deleting paragraphs (a),
(b), and (c) of subclause (1) thereof, and substituting therefor
the following:—
(a.) For the whole of Part I taken at one time, £ s. d.
or for two or more groups thereof .. 1 0 0
(b.) For any one group .. .. .. 0 10 0
(c.) For each subject to complete a partial pass
in a group .. .. .. 0 5 0
Provided the maximum fee payable in any case shall not
exceed £1.
SECOND SCHEDULE.
REGULATIONS FOR JUNIOR AND SENIOR NATIONAL
SCHOLARSHIPS.
Clause 23 is hereby amended with respect to Group II of
the compulsory subjects by increasing the maximum marks
for subject (4) Laboratory Work or Outdoor Work in Field
and Garden, from 100 marks to 200 marks.

Appointing a Member of Assessment Court under the
Valuation of Land Act, 1908.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House at Wellington, this eleventh day
of September, 1916.

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.
IN pursuance and exercise of the power and authority
vested in him by the Valuation of Land Act, 1908, His
Excellency the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand,
acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive
Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby appoint the
person mentioned in the Schedule hereto to be a member
of the Assessment Court for the special district set opposite
his name.

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in him by
the Public Works Act, 1908, and of all other powers in
anywise enabling him in this behalf, His Excellency the
Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, acting by and
with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the
said Dominion, doth hereby order and declare that the
portion of road described in the Schedule hereto shall, on
and after the date of this Order in Council, become a
Government road.
