Panama Canal Approach.—Light established; Lights discontinued; Alterations in Buoyage.
- Light established: Taboga Island Light No. 3.
Position.—On the north-western side of Taboga Island, at a distance of 11 cables, 252° (S. 68° W. mag.), from the northern extremity of the Morro of Taboga Islet. Lat. 8° 48′ N., long. 79° 34½′ W.
Abridged description.—Lt. fl. green ev. 3 secs., vis. 9 m.
Details.—Character—A flashing green light every three seconds, thus: Flash 0·3 sec., eclipse 2·7 secs. Visibility—Nine miles, from about 14° (N. 10° E. mag.) through east to about 204° (S. 20° W. mag.).
Note.—No further details of this light have been received.

(a.) Position: On Chamé Point; lat. 8° 39′ N., long. 79° 41½′ W. Description: A fixed white light.
(b.) Position: On Melones Island; lat. 8° 49′ N., long. 79° 36½′ W. Description: Two fixed white lights (vertical).
(c.) Position: On Tortolita Islet; lat. 8° 52′ N., long. 79° 33½′ W. Description: A fixed white light.
(d.) Position: On Changarmi Islet; lat. 8° 53¾′ N., long. 79° 33¼′ W. Description: Two fixed white lights (vertical).
- Alterations in Buoyage.
(a.) Commission Rock buoy.—Position: Lat. 8° 50¾′ N., long. 79° 33¾′ W. Alteration: The two fixed white lights formerly shown from this buoy have been discontinued.
(b.) Knocker Rock buoy.—Position: Lat. 8° 57′ N., long. 79° 31¼′ W. Alteration: The red conical buoy has been replaced by a light-buoy, painted black, exhibiting a flashing white light every three seconds—thus, flash 0·3 sec., eclipse 2·7 secs.
Variation.—4° E.
Gulf of Panama, Western Shore.—Lights established.
(a.) Mensabé Light No. 10.—Position: About 25 miles north-westward of Cape Mala; lat. 7° 48′ N., long. 80° 14′ W. Abridged description: Lt. fl., R. ev. 3 secs., vis. 9 m. Character: A flashing red light every three seconds—thus, flash 0·3 sec., eclipse 2·7 secs. Visibility: Nine miles.
(b.) Chitre Light No. 9.—Position: Westward of Liso Point; lat. 7° 57½′ N., long. 80° 23¼′ W. Abridged description: Lt. fl., ev. 3 secs., vis. 10 m. Character: A flashing white light every three seconds—thus, flash 0·3 sec., eclipse 2·7 secs. Visibility: Ten miles.
(c.) Agua Dulce Light No. 8.—Position: On the north side of the entrance to Rio Aguadulce; lat. 8° 11½′ N., long. 80° 28½′ W. Abridged description: Lt. fl., W.G., ev. 3 secs., vis. 5 m. Character: A flashing white light every three seconds, with green sectors—thus, flash 0·3 sec., eclipse 2·7 secs. Visibility: Five miles.
(d.) Agua Dulce Light No. 7.—Position: On Negro Bank; lat. 8° 9¾′ N., long. 80° 27½′ W. Abridged description: Lt. fl., ev. 3 secs., vis. 10 m. Character: A flashing white light every three seconds, as in (b). Visibility: Ten miles. Structure: Pile dolphin.
(e.) Puerto Pasada Light No. 6.—Position: At the entrance to the Estero Viejo; lat. 8° 16¾′ N., long. 80° 19¼′ W. Abridged description: Lt. fl., ev. 3 secs., vis. 5 m. Character: A flashing white light every three seconds, as in (b). Visibility: Five miles.
(f.) Antoine Point Light No. 5.—Position: On Antoine (Anton) Point; lat. 8° 16½′ N., long. 80° 14½′ W. Abridged description: Lt. fl., ev. sec., vis. 5 m. Character: A flashing white light every second—thus, flash 0·3 sec., eclipse 0·7 sec. Visibility: Five miles.
(g.) San Carlos Light No. 4.—Position: Northward of Calabaza Point; lat. 8° 26¼′ N., long. 79° 58′ W. Abridged description: Lt. fl., ev. sec., vis. 5 m. Character: A flashing white light every second, as in (f). Visibility: Five miles.
Remarks.—No further details of the above lights have been received.
Note.—A note “Posn. approx.” is to be inserted on the charts against lights (a) and (g).

BRAZIL.
East Coast.—Rio de Janeiro.—Fort de Villegagnon.—Light-buoy established off.
Position.—At a distance of about one cable north-eastward from Fort de Villegagnon Lighthouse, in the position formerly occupied by the red conical buoy which it replaces; lat. 22° 54¾′ S., long. 43° 9¼′ W.
Description.—A black conical light-buoy, exhibiting a flashing white light every three seconds, thus: Flash 0·3 sec., eclipse 2·7 secs.
Chart affected.—No. 541, Plans of Rio de Janeiro Harbour and entrance.

HAWAIIAN ISLANDS.
OAHU.—HONOLULU HARBOUR ENTRANCE.—WRECK-BUOY CHANGED.—Notice is given that the black cylindro-spherical buoy moored to mark the wreck of the U.S. submarine “F-4,” sunk at the entrance to Honolulu Harbour, has been replaced by two small black can buoys, marking the bow and stern.

CHINA.
YANGTZE RIVER APPROACH.—SHAWEISHAN.—SHOAL DISCOVERED EASTWARD.—A shoal, with a least depth of 3 fathoms, has been discovered 2·5 miles 87° from Shaweishan Lighthouse.
NOTE.—Mariners should exercise caution when navigating the entrance to Shaweishan North Channel owing to changes in the depths.
Approx. position: Lat. 31° 25′ 30″ N., long. 122° 17′ 15″ E.

Notice to Mariners No. 63 of 1915.

Wellington, N.Z., 6th August, 1915.
THE Secretary of State for the Colonies notifies that His Majesty’s Government has decided to declare a blockade of the coast of Asia Minor. The area of the blockade will extend from latitude 37° 35′ N. to latitude 40° 5′ N., and will include the entrance to the Dardanelles.
The Secretary of State also notifies that the Italian Government has declared a blockade of the coast described below:—

Austro-Hungarian coast from Italian frontier on north to Montenegrin frontier on south, including all islands, ports, bays, &c.
-
Albanian coast from Montenegrin frontier on north to Aspri Ruga (latitude 40° 9′ 36″ N., longitude 19° 35′ 45″ E.) inclusive on south.

Notice to Mariners No. 64 of 1915.
AUCKLAND HARBOUR.—DREDGING OFF QUEEN’S WHARF.

Wellington, N.Z., 9th August, 1915.
THE Auckland Harbour Board have notified that the dredger “Hapai” is now working to the northward of the end of Queen’s Wharf, and has six moorings laid out in N., S., E., and W. directions.
Vessels are warned to pay special attention to dredger’s signals, and to pass on the side showing the Red Ball by day, and the Red Light by night.

NAPIER HARBOUR.—NIGHT SIGNALS.

Wellington, N.Z., 11th August, 1915.
THE Napier Harbour Board have notified that on and after the 1st September, 1915, all Morse signalling at Napier Harbour will be conducted from the signal-staff on the Glasgow Wharf.
