THE NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE.

- No yachts or pleasure-boats under sail or steam, or otherwise mechanically driven, are allowed in the Estuary of the Thames east of a line drawn between the Grain Spit and West Shoebury buoys.
The Estuary of the Thames mentioned in the preceding paragraph is to be considered to include the north coast of Kent from North Foreland to Sheerness, and the coast of Essex from Shoeburness to the Naze.
Pulling-boats are not allowed in the waters prohibited above without a license, which must be obtained by the person to whom the boat belongs from the Chief of the Local Police. A separate license is required for each boat.
IV. RIVER MEDWAY.-No yachts or pleasure-boats under sail or steam, or otherwise mechanically driven, or pleasure pulling-boats, are allowed in the Medway to the eastward of Rochester Bridge.

NOTICE TO MARINERS.
No. 507 of the year 1915.
ENGLAND, SOUTH-EAST COAST.
North Foreland to Dungeness.-Regulations respecting Yachts and Pleasure Boats.
MARINERS are hereby warned that, under the Defence of the Realm (Consolidation) Regulations, 1914, the following orders have been made, as to cruising of yachts and pleasure-boats between the undermentioned areas, and are now in force:-
I.-NORTH FORELAND TO SOUTH FORELAND.

All yachts and pleasure-boats are to keep within a distance of half a mile from the shore, except when in the waters between Ramsgate and Deal, when they are to keep inside a line joining North Foreland and Old Stairs Bay.

Yachts and boats plying for hire must be duly licensed, and are not to leave the shore without a competent boatman in charge. In places where licenses are not granted by the local authorities a permit must be obtained from the Senior Naval Officer, Ramsgate (see par. 3).

Private yachts and boats are not allowed to cruise in these waters without a permit from the Senior Naval Officer, Ramsgate. (When applying for a permit state name and address of owner, and name and description of craft.)

No yachts or pleasure-boats are to cruise at night-i.e., between the hours of sunset and sunrise.

Yachts and pleasure-boats are strictly forbidden to go alongside or communicate with any vessel in the Downs.

Yachts and pleasure-boats embarking or disembarking passengers at Ramsgate Harbour are to use the steps at inner end of West Pier, and are to keep to the westward of a line joining outer extremity of East Pier and west gate of basin. When H.M. vessels are entering or leaving harbour, yachts and pleasure boats are to keep clear of the entrance.

Infringements of the above regulations are punishable offences under the Defence of the Realm Act.
II. SOUTH FORELAND TO DUNGENESS.

All yachts and pleasure-boats plying for hire between Dungeness and St. Margaret’s Bay are only allowed to do so by day. They must be supplied with a permit signed by the Chief of the Local Police, and they are to keep within a distance of one mile from the shore. They are to be at their moorings at night-i.e., between the hours of sunset and sunrise.

Yachts and pleasure-boats are not allowed to leave shore without a competent boatman in charge, and are forbidden to go alongside or communicate with any vessel lying off shore.

Dover Harbour being a fortified area is subject to special regulations.

Yachts and pleasure-boats are forbidden to enter or leave Folkestone Harbour. Boats plying for hire from Folkestone Beach may do so subject to paragraphs 1 and 2, but must keep west of the entrance of Folkestone Harbour.

Infringements of the above regulations are punishable offences under the Defence of the Realm Act.

Northern Territory.
FORT POINT, PORT DARWIN.-NEW LIGHT.-Mariners and others are hereby notified that the new light at Fort Point, Port Darwin, is now exhibited experimentally.
Position.-Lat. 12° 28’ S., long. 130° 51′ E.
Structure.-Iron post, 9 ft. high, painted white.
Character and colour.-A group flashing white light with red sector, showing a group of two flashes every six seconds, thus : Flash 0·3 sec., eclipse 0·9 sec.; flash 0·3 sec., eclipse 4·5 secs.
Sector.-Shows white from 251° (S. 68° W. mag.) through west, north, and east to 97° (S. 86° E. mag.), red thence to 115° (S. 68° E. mag.), obscured elsewhere.
Elevation.-20 ft.
Visibility.-White, ten miles ; red, five miles.

EMERY POINT, PORT DARWIN.-ALTERATION OF LIGHT.- Mariners and others are hereby notified that the light on Emery Point, Port Darwin, is now altered experimentally.
Position.-Lat. 12° 27’ S., long. 130° 49’ E.
Structure.-Steel skeleton tower, 31 ft. high, painted white.
Character and colour.-Single flashing white light, with red sector, showing one flash every three seconds, thus : Flash 0·3 sec., eclipse 2·7 secs.
Sector.-Shows white from 335° (N. 28° W. mag.) through north and east to 139° (S. 44° E. mag.), red thence to 181° (S. 2° E. mag.), obscured elsewhere.
Elevation.-60 ft.
Visibility.-White, thirteen miles ; red, six miles.

Queensland.
INNER BARRIER ROUTE.-PRINCESS CHARLOTTE BAY.-DHU REEF.—NEW LIGHT.-Mariners and others are hereby notified that the new light on Dhu Reef will be exhibited experimentally on or about 1st September, 1915.
Position.-Lat. 14° 8’ S., long. 144° E.
Structure.-Steel skeleton tower, painted red, on concrete pier.
Character.-Single flashing white light showing one flash every 3 seconds, thus : Flash 0·3 sec., eclipse 2·7 secs.
Elevation.-56 ft.
Visibility.-Thirteen miles all round the horizon.

CALIFORNIA.
SAN LUIS OBISPO LIGHT-STATION.-FOG-SIGNAL CHANGED.- On Ist June, 1915, the fog-signal at San Luis Obispo Light-station was changed from a 10-in. steam-whistle to an air-siren sounding 1 blast every 40 seconds—thus, blast 4 seconds, silent 36 seconds.
Approx. position : Lat. 35° 9’ 38” N., long. 120° 45′ 37″ W. H.O. Charts Nos. 527 and 1006.

Abridged description.-Lt. fl., W.R., ev. 3 secs., vis. 9 m.
Details.-Character-A flashing white light every three seconds, with red sector, thus : Flash 0·3 sec., eclipse 2·7 secs. Elevation-Not stated. Visibility-Nine miles.
