Minister's Decisions under Customs Duties Act.

Customs Department, Wellington, 7th July, 1915.

IT is hereby notified for public information that the Hon. the Minister of Customs has decided to interpret the Customs Duties Act in relation to the undermentioned articles as follows:—

NOTE.—“Not otherwise enumerated” appears as n.o.e.; “other kinds” as o.k.; “articles and materials suited only for, and to be used solely in, the fabrication of goods in the Dominion” as a. & m.s. Articles marked thus † are revised decisions.

General Tariff.
15/27 A. & m.s., viz.:— Dummy bullets of wood for making dummy cartridges (used in the military training of recruits) As a. & m.s. (482) Free.

If imported separately The parts to be classified under their approximate tariff headings.

NOTE.—The following decision is cancelled: Handles for rakes, imported detached from heads of rakes, as rake handles (196), 20 per cent. (page 175, 1914 edition).

Applications invited for the Position of Hemp-grader, Department of Agriculture, Industries, and Commerce, Wellington.

Office of Public Service Commissioner,
Wellington, 7th July, 1915.

APPLICATIONS will be received by the undersigned up till noon on the 21st July, 1915, for the position of Hemp-grader, Department of Agriculture, Industries, and Commerce, Wellington.

  1. Applications (to be made on form P.S.C. 17A, obtainable at principal post-offices) must be addressed to the Secretary to the Public Service Commissioner, Wellington, and must embrace a statement of education and experience, particulars of age, &c.

  2. Applicants should show that they possess—
    (a.) Thorough knowledge of New Zealand hemp;
    (b.) Recent practical experience in hemp-milling;
    (c.) Practical knowledge of hemp-milling machinery and of manufacture of cordage.

The appointment will be subject to the provisions of the Public Service Act, 1912.

The position will be graded in the General Division. Salary, £250; maximum, £300.

Applications invited for the Position of Overseer, Public Works Department, Arthur’s Pass Tunnel.

Office of Public Service Commissioner,
Wellington, 7th July, 1915.

APPLICATIONS will be received by the undersigned up till noon on the 25th July, 1915, for the position of Overseer, Public Works Department, Arthur’s Pass Tunnel.

  1. Applications (to be made on form P.S.C. 17A, obtainable at principal post-offices) must be addressed to the Secretary to the Public Service Commissioner, Wellington, and must embrace a statement of education and experience, particulars of age, &c.

  2. Applicants must have had previous experience in the construction of railway tunnels, and some knowledge of the use of machinery.

The appointment will be subject to the provisions of the Public Service Act, 1912.

The position will be graded in the General Division. Salary, £190.
