Constituting the Town District of Lumsden in the County of Southland.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS it is enacted by the Town Boards Act, 1908, that the Governor may declare that any locality outside a borough wherein there are not less than fifty householders shall be a town district:

And whereas a petition has been presented to the Governor by the inhabitants within the area mentioned and described in the said petition, praying that such area may be constituted a town district under the Town Boards Act, 1908:

And whereas a Commission appointed in pursuance of section two of the Town Boards Amendment Act, 1912, held an inquiry, and reported that the locality defined in the said petition was suitable for municipal control, and made certain alterations of the boundaries thereof:

Now, therefore, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority vested in me by the Town Boards Act, 1908, and of all other powers enabling me in this behalf, do hereby proclaim and declare that the area described in the Schedule hereto, being the locality defined in the said petition, with boundaries as altered by the said Commission, shall be a town district, and the same is hereby constituted a town district, under the Town Boards Act, 1908, by the name of the Lumsden Town District. And in further pursuance and exercise of the said powers I do hereby proclaim, declare, and appoint that the Board of Commissioners for the said district shall consist of seven members.

SCHEDULE.

LUMSDEN TOWN DISTRICT.

ALL that area in the Southland Land District bounded by a line commencing at the south-western corner of Section No. 63, Hokonui Survey District; thence along the eastern side of the road forming the western boundary of that section, 1959 links; thence bearing 30° distance 300 links, bearing 315° distance 2950 links, and bearing 266° 46′ to the Oreti River; thence southerly along the left bank of that river to a point in line with the southern boundary of Section No. 4, Block V, Town of South Lumsden; thence to and along that boundary, across Oxford Street and railway reserve, and along the western boundary of Section No. 4, Block VI, Town of South Lumsden, to its south-western corner; thence along the southern boundary of that section to and across Lancaster Street and along the northern side of Kent Street to the south-eastern corner of Section No. 7, Block VII; thence along the eastern boundaries of Sections Nos. 7 and 4, Block VII, across Lanark Street, along the eastern boundaries of Sections Nos. 8 and 4, Block II, and the eastern boundary of Cemetery Reserve, Block I, Town of South Lumsden, to Flora Road; thence along the south-western side of that road to a point in line with the north-western boundary of Lot 53 on plan No. 77, deposited in the office of the District Land Registrar at Invercargill; thence across Flora Road and along the south-eastern side of the road forming the north-western boundaries of Lots 53 and 54 on plan No. 77 aforesaid to the northernmost corner of the last-mentioned lot; thence across the road and along the north-eastern side of the road forming the south-western boundaries of Lots 4, 3, 2, and 1, Block XXXIII, on plan No. 77 aforesaid, to Plantation Street, and along the south-eastern side of that street to a point in line with the north-eastern side of Down Street; thence across Plantation Street and along the north-eastern side of Down Street to Hill Road, along the eastern side of Hill Road and across Run Street to the south-western corner of Section No. 63 aforesaid, the place of commencement.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the Right Honourable Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Member of the Royal Victorian Order, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over His Majesty’s Dominion of New Zealand and its Dependencies; and issued under the Seal of the said Dominion, at the Government House at Wellington, this fifth day of June, in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and fifteen.
