Notifying Lands in Taranaki Land District for Sale by Public Auction.

LIVERPOOL, Governor.

IN pursuance of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one-hundred-and-twenty-sixth section of the Land Act, 1908, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby appoint Wednesday, the twenty-first day of July, one thousand nine hundred and fifteen, as the time at which the lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be sold by public auction; and I do hereby fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold as those mentioned in the said Schedule hereto.

SCHEDULE.

TARANAKI LAND DISTRICT.

Hawera County.—Hawera Survey District.

SECTION 7, Block V : Area, 10 acres ; upset price, £370. ,, 9, „ 8 ,, „ £280.

Situated on the Pikituroa Road, off the Ketemarae Road, about half a mile from the Town of Normanby. Access to Normanby by good metalled road. The land comprises flat and easy sloping ground, all in grass, and partly fenced; about three-quarters of area ploughable. Soil is of fair quality, on volcanic formation; well watered. Fencing on each section is included in the price of the land.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this twenty-ninth day of May, one thousand nine hundred and fifteen.

Regulations for the Military Forces of New Zealand amended (New Zealand Forces Motor Reserve of Officers).

LIVERPOOL, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred on me by the Defence Act, 1909, and its amendments, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby amend, in the manner and to the extent set forth in the Schedule hereto, the Regulations for the Military Forces of New Zealand made on the twenty-second day of December, one thousand nine hundred and thirteen, and published in the New Zealand Gazette on the twenty-third day of January, one thousand nine hundred and fourteen, and I do hereby declare that the amendment hereby made shall take effect as from the date of publication thereof in the Gazette.

SCHEDULE.

SECTION XV, the New Zealand Forces Motor Reserve of Officers, is hereby cancelled, and the following substituted in lieu thereof:—

SECTION XV.—NEW ZEALAND FORCES MOTOR SERVICE CORPS.

ESTABLISHMENT.

  1. The New Zealand Forces Motor Service Corps shall consist of two sections : (a) The Motor-car Section, and (b) The Motor-boat Section.

The establishment will be as under:— One Lieutenant-Colonel in command, with one staff officer (Captain).

Each district will appoint one District Senior Officer in the Motor-car Section and one in the Motor-boat Section. In cases where a District Senior Officer is not a resident in or is temporarily absent from the chief centre of his district, the Officer Commanding may authorize some officer to act in that capacity in such centre.

The District Senior Officers shall have jurisdiction over their respective sections of the corps, and shall be responsible to the Commanding Officer for the proper training and efficiency of their commands.

ADMINISTRATION.

  1. The New Zealand Forces Motor Service Corps will be administered on mobilization by a Lieutenant-Colonel of the Territorial Force, who will be responsible to the Quartermaster-General, assisted by a Staff Officer who will be appointed from the Permanent Forces of the Dominion. The administrative duties in peace will be performed, as regards requisitions for service and payment, by the officer of the Headquarters Staff under the Quartermaster-General referred to in paragraph 682.

REQUISITIONS FOR SERVICE.

  1. In peace time, requisitions for the services of the New Zealand Forces Motor Service Corps will be served on the District Senior Officer, or the officer acting for him, by an officer of the Headquarters or District Headquarters Staff duly appointed for the purpose. Where possible, twenty-four hours' notice of service will be given. It will be the duty of the District Senior Officer to keep or cause to be kept a roll of the members of the corps in his district, together with a record of all calls made and services rendered. Copies of these records must be forwarded at least half-yearly to the Officer Commanding the corps. Officers will be called up for duty, as far as possible, in rotation, and in the district in which they reside. Any officer excusing himself from duty must furnish his District Senior Officer with a satisfactory excuse. Should any officer excuse himself more than three times in succession, the fact must be reported to the Officer Commanding, and must be accompanied by a report from his District Senior Officer as to the need for retaining the officer's services.

APPOINTMENTS AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE.

  1. (a.) Applicants for commissions in the New Zealand Forces Motor Service Corps must possess a thoroughly efficient motor-car or a seaworthy motor-boat suitable for coast defence service, and will, prior to appointment, be required to pass a few simple tests relating to elementary motor mechanics.

(b.) First appointments will be on probation. Within twelve months from the date of their appointment as 2nd Lieutenants (on probation) officers will be required to pass in the subjects mentioned in Appendix III, and must obtain at least 0·5 of the marks allotted. On passing the prescribed examinations, 2nd Lieutenants will be promoted to the rank of Lieutenant.

Before promotion to the rank of Captain, officers must pass in a higher grade in the subjects mentioned in Appendix III, and must obtain at least 0·5 of the marks allotted.

Promotion to higher rank than that of Captain will be by seniority as vacancies occur, subject to the recommendation of the District Senior Officers through the Officer Commanding the corps. In special cases promotion may be made by Headquarters, on the recommendation of the Officer Commanding the corps, to higher rank without examination.

(c.) Officers will be required to perform ten days' duty annually, consecutively or otherwise as required, or twenty half-days, if called upon.

All ranks will be required to attend at least six drill parades per annum for the purpose of receiving instruction in suitable subjects. Such parades will not count as “tours of duty” for which pay and allowance are granted. Officers residing at a distance from the place appointed for such parades may be excused by the Officer Commanding from attending.

The duties of the corps will be entirely in connection with the Headquarters, District, and Coast Defence Staffs of the Defence Forces.

ELIGIBILITY FOR APPOINTMENT.

  1. Compulsory members of the Territorial Force are not eligible for appointment to the corps.

DRESS.

  1. The uniform for the Motor-car Section will be as laid down in the Dress Regulations; and that for the Motor-boat Section will be as laid down for that section.

LEAVE.

  1. Officers quitting the Dominion must comply with paragraph 444. Applications will be sent through the District Senior Officer.

Should members in any other way be prevented from performing their duties the District Senior Officer must be advised to that effect.

PAY.

  1. Except in the case of mobilization of the Forces, officers should only be called generally within a forty-mile radius of the place of assembly for manoeuvres, &c.
