Notice of Date of Examinations under the Control of the Director of Education.

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned examinations will be held on the dates specified in each case:
- Senior National Scholarship Examination (formerly Education Board Senior Scholarship Examination): On or about 24th November, 1915, and following days.
- Intermediate Examination for Senior Free Places in Secondary Schools and District High Schools: On or about 24th November, 1915, and following days.
- Junior National Scholarship: On or about the 2nd and 3rd December, 1915.
- Junior Free Place (including the Examination for Junior Free Places in Technical Schools): On or about the 2nd and 3rd December, 1915.
- Teachers' Certificate Examinations, Class C and Class D: On or about the 5th January, 1916, and following days.
Entries for Junior National Scholarships and Junior Free Places must be made through the principals or head teachers of the schools attended, and will be received by Secretaries of Education Boards not later than the 8th September, 1915; provided that applications accompanied by a bank receipt for a late fee of 10s. will be accepted up to the 22nd September.
Entries for the Senior National Scholarship Examination will be received by the Secretaries of Education Boards until the 8th September, 1915. For the Intermediate Examination (Senior Free Place and Drawing Only) entries must be sent to the Director of Education, Wellington, so as to reach his office by the same date. The time for receiving entries for the Senior National Scholarship and Intermediate Examinations will be extended to 22nd September, 1915, on payment of a late fee of 10s.; otherwise no entrance fee is payable in respect of these examinations.
Entries for the Teachers' C and D Certificate Examinations will be received by the Director of Education, Wellington, until the 15th October, 1915, or, with a late fee of £1 in addition to the ordinary fee, until the 1st November, 1915.
All entries must be made on the proper forms, which may be obtained after 1st July from the office of any Education Board.

Notice of Date of Examinations for the Public Service.
Public Service Examinations.
Office of Public Service Commissioner,
Wellington, 21st May, 1915.
NOTICE is hereby given of the intention to hold Public Service Examinations as follows, namely:
- The Public Service Entrance Examination: On or about the 24th November, 1915, and following days.
- The Public Service Senior Examination: On or about the 6th January, 1916, and following days.
Candidates for the Public Service Senior Examination will be admitted without fee if they (a) are employed in Departments of the Public Service coming under the provisions of the Public Service Act, 1912; or (b) have passed the Public Service Entrance Examination of November, 1914, and have not declined appointment; or (c) have entered and sat for the Public Service Entrance Examination of November, 1915. In all other cases a fee of £1 will be required as an entrance fee for the examination.
Entries for the Public Service Entrance Examination and the Public Service Senior Examination must be addressed "The Director of Education, Wellington," and be sent so as to reach his office on or before the 8th September, 1915, and 15th October, 1915, respectively.
Late applications, if accompanied in each case by a bank receipt for the late fee of £1 in addition to any fee ordinarily payable, will be received for the Entrance and Senior Examinations up to the 15th September and 1st November respectively.
All entries must be made on the proper forms, which may be obtained at any time after the 1st July from the office of the Public Service Commissioner, or of the Education Department, or of any Education Board.

AUCKLAND HARBOUR.—FOG-SIGNAL ON WESTERN TIDE-DEFLECTOR.

Wellington, N.Z., 24th May, 1915.
THE Auckland Harbour Board has notified that a 12-inch electric gong has been installed on the northern end of the western tide-deflector, and will ring continuously during foggy weather on and after Monday, 31st May, 1915.
Charts, &c., affected: Admiralty Charts Nos. 1970 and 1896; "New Zealand Pilot," eighth edition, 1908, Chapter 2, page 38.

APPLICATIONS will be received by the undersigned up till noon on the 5th June, 1915, from officers of the Public Service, for the position of Officer in Charge, Intestacy Branch, Public Trust Department, Wellington.
- Applications must be made on forms obtainable from the Permanent Head of the Public Trust Department, or from the Secretary, Public Service Commissioner, Wellington.
- Applicants must have had thorough experience in the administration of deceased persons’ estates, and possess sound knowledge of the law relating to the distribution of intestacy estates.
The position will be graded in the Clerical Division, Class IV.
