Notifying Land in the Southland Land District subject to the Land for Settlements Consolidation Act, 1908.

PURSUANT to the provisions of the Land for Settlements Consolidation Act, 1908, and its amendments, I hereby notify that the undermentioned Crown land, being the land known as the Knowsley Park Settlement, which has been acquired under the said Acts, is subject to the said Acts as from 30th March, 1914.


SCHEDULE.

KNOWSLEY PARK SETTLEMENT.

ALL that area in the Southland Land District, containing by admeasurement 4,942 acres 2 roods 2 perches, more or less, situated in Blocks VI, VII, and IX, Tutarau Survey District, being Sections 1 to 11, both inclusive, of Fortification Hill Settlement, and bounded as follows: Commencing at the north-east corner of Section 73, Block VI, Tutarau Survey District; towards the north-west generally by a road, 27·2 links, 1755·7 links, 1470 links, 2069·8 links, 1028·1 links, 1721 links, 1059·5 links, 2400 links, 1216·1 links, 1846·2 links, 780·8 links, 634·5 links, 312·5 links, 249·8 links, 272·5 links, 810·9 links, 930 links, and 833·5 links; towards the north-east and east generally by a road, 1438·5 links, and the Waiarikiki Stream, 52750 links; towards the south by Sections 5 and 14, Block X, Tutarau Survey District, 5100·5 links; again towards the east by Section 14, Block X aforesaid, 2211·6 links; again towards the south by a road, 1946·3 links and 541·8 links; again towards the east by the crossing of a road and Sections 21 and 6, Block X, Tutarau Survey District, 4762·4 links; thence towards the south-east generally by Sections 95 and 99, Block VII, Tutarau Survey District, and the abutment of a road, 2190·2 links, 1796·9 links, 2163·4 links, 3194·2 links, and 4076·2 links; towards the south-west and south by a road, the crossings of two roads, and Sections 98 and 104, Block VII, Tutarau Survey District, 2487·8 links, 1048·5 links, and 7247·9 links; and towards the west generally by Sections 104, 84, a road, the crossing of a road, Sections 100 and 2, Block VII, Section 1, the crossing of a road, and Section 73, Block VI, Tutarau Survey District, 4197·9 links, 1693·1 links, 1849·1 links, 401 links, 7323·8 links, 681·6 links, and 3178·6 links, to the point of commencement: be all the aforesaid linkages more or less: as the same is more particularly delineated on plan marked L. and S. 19452, deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands and Survey, Wellington, and thereon edged with red.

Notice.—Passengers to England via France.


Customs Department,

IT is hereby notified, for public information, that British travellers desiring to pass through France en route to England should provide themselves with British passports or Consular passes, with photographs attached.

The visa of the French Consul at the port of embarkation is not obligatory.

Travellers without papers may be at any time refused permission to land at a French port.

BRITISH COLUMBIA.

VANCOUVER ISLAND.—SOUTH-WEST COAST.—BARKLEY SOUND.—SPECIAL REGULATIONS CANCELLED.—Referring to Notice to Mariners No. 49 (4007) of 1914, further notice is given that the restrictions placed on navigation in Barkley Sound by the Naval Service Department of Canada have been removed, and navigation in all parts of the Sound is again free to all vessels.

STRAIT OF GEORGIA.—FRASER RIVER.—NEW WESTMINSTER.—LIGHT ESTABLISHED.—A fixed red electric light, visible 2 miles, has been established on the end of the new Government wharf at the foot of Eighth Street, New Westminster.

The light is exhibited 38 ft. above the water from a pole erected on the south-west corner of the wharf.

STRAIT OF GEORGIA.—BURRARD INLET.—VANCOUVER HARBOUR.—BROCKTON POINT.—NEW LIGHTHOUSE BUILDING.—The grounds in the vicinity of Brockton Point Light-station are being improved for park purposes, a concrete retaining-wall and boulevard are being built, and a new lighthouse is under construction.

The new structure will be of reinforced concrete, square in plan, with sloping sides, surmounted by an octagonal iron lantern, and will be erected about 100 ft. 30° from the present lighthouse.

The height of the tower from the base to the top of the ventilator on the lantern will be 42 ft.

As soon as the new lighthouse is completed the illuminating apparatus will be moved from the present structure to the new tower, where the light will be exhibited 40 ft. above the water.

The fog-bell will be suspended from the front face of the new tower.

Approx. position: Lat. 49° 17′ 44″ N., long. 123° 6′ 54″ W.

HAWAIIAN ISLANDS.

HAWAII.—WEST COAST.—KEAHOLE POINT LIGHT.—CHARACTERISTIC TO BE CHANGED.—NEW STRUCTURE.—About 15th March, 1915, the characteristic of Keahole Point light will be changed from fixed white to group flashing white, of 170 candle-power, showing 1 group of 2 flashes every 6 seconds.

The new light will be exhibited 43 ft. above the water and 30 ft. above the ground from a white pyramidal concrete tower located 3 yards 36° from the present structure, which will be removed.

Approx. position: Lat. 19° 44′ 15″ N., long. 156° 3′ 39″ W.

HAWAII.—WEST COAST.—KAWAIHAE LIGHT.—CHARACTERISTIC TO BE CHANGED.—NEW STRUCTURE.—About 15th March, 1915, the characteristic of Kawaihae light will be changed from fixed red to flashing white, of 170 candle-power, every 5 seconds—thus, flash 1 second, eclipsed 4 seconds.

The new light will be exhibited 59 ft. above the water and 34 ft. above the ground from a white pyramidal concrete tower.

Approx. position: Lat. 20° 2′ 39″ N., long. 155° 50′ 6″ W.

HAWAII.—WEST COAST.—MAHUKONA LIGHT.—CHARACTERISTIC TO BE CHANGED.—NEW STRUCTURE.—About 15th March, 1915, the characteristic of Mahukona light will be changed from fixed white to flashing white, of 170 candle-power, every 1½ seconds—thus, flash ½ second, eclipsed 1 second.

The new light will be exhibited 64 ft. above high water and 20 ft. above the ground from a white pyramidal concrete tower located 45 yards 180° from the old structure, which will be removed.

Approx. position: Lat. 20° 11′ N., long. 155° 54′ 14″ W.

KAUAI ISLAND.—EAST COAST.—ANAHOLA RANGE-LIGHTS TO BE DISCONTINUED.—About 1st April, 1915, Anahola range-lights will be permanently discontinued.

These lights are at present maintained by the Inter Island Steam Navigation Company, and are exhibited when steamers are expected.

URUGUAY.

MONTEVIDEO APPROACH.—LIGHT, WHISTLE, AND BELL BUOY ESTABLISHED.—LIGHT AND WHISTLE BUOY DISCONTINUED.—A light, whistle, and bell buoy, showing a flashing white light every 6 seconds—thus, flash 1 second, eclipsed 0·5 second; flash 1 second, eclipsed 3·5 seconds—visible 12 miles, has been established on the port side of the channel,
