Grant of Temporary Rank to an Officer in the New Zealand Expeditionary Force.

HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to approve that Captain (temporary Major) Athelstane Moore, D.S.O., the Royal Dublin Fusiliers, be appointed to command the Otago Battalion, New Zealand Expeditionary Force, vice Major (temporary Lieutenant-Colonel) Thomas William McDonald, New Zealand Staff Corps (proceeding to England for medical treatment), and to be granted the temporary rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the New Zealand Expeditionary Force while so employed. Dated 29th December, 1914.

Major Anthony Crispe Cottrell, No. 8 Company (Westport), New Zealand Garrison Artillery, to command the Coast Defence Troops at Westport, as a separate command, and to be directly responsible to the Officer Commanding the Canterbury Military District. Dated 26th January, 1915.

New Zealand Staff Corps.

Staff Cadet (Royal Australian Military College) George Hansbrow Hume to be Lieutenant. Dated 3rd December, 1914.

1st Mounted Rifles (Canterbury Yeomanry Cavalry).

The undermentioned 2nd Lieutenants to be Lieutenants. Dated 8th January, 1915:—

Marmaduke Bethell to Lieutenant. Dated 9th January, 1915.

Queen Alexandra’s 2nd (Wellington West Coast) Mounted Rifles.

The notice published in New Zealand Gazette dated 28th January, 1915, of the appointments of officers is cancelled.

2nd Lieutenant Henry Augustus Swarbrick to be Lieutenant. Dated 8th August, 1914.
