Notice to Mariners No. 11 of 1915.

HAURAKI GULF.—CHANNEL ISLAND.—LIGHT ESTABLISHED.

NOTICE is hereby given that on and after the night of Thursday, the 11th February, 1915, an unwatched acetone-acetylene light will be exhibited from a tower at a height of about 260 ft. above high water on Channel Island at the eastern entrance to Hauraki Gulf. The light will show a white flashing light of the following characteristic—light ½ second, eclipse 2 seconds; light ½ second, eclipse 10 seconds; and should be visible all round the horizon on a clear dark night for a distance of about 20 miles.

Charts, &c., affected: Admiralty Charts Nos. 2543, 3565, and 1212; “New Zealand Pilot,” eighth edition, 1908, Chapter iv, page 98.

CROWN LANDS NOTICES.

NOTICE is hereby given that the leases of the under-mentioned lands having been declared forfeited by resolution of the Canterbury Land Board, the said lands have thereby reverted to the Crown under the provisions of the Land Act, 1908.

Milling-timber in Auckland Land District for Sale by Public Auction.

District Lands and Survey Office,

NOTICE is hereby given, in terms of the State Forests Act, 1908, and the regulations thereunder, that the undermentioned milling-timber will be offered for sale by public auction at the District Lands and Survey Office, Auckland, at 12 o’clock noon on Monday, 15th February, 1915, subject to the terms and conditions as stated hereon, and any other special conditions mentioned at the time of sale.

SCHEDULE.

AUCKLAND LAND DISTRICT.—HOBSON COUNTY.

Part Block XIII, Mangakahia Survey District (State Forest Reserve).

17 KAURI-TREES containing about 15,049 sup. ft. (standing measurement).

100 totara-trees, containing about 97,829 sup. ft. (standing measurement).

181 rimu-trees, containing about 166,594 sup. ft. (standing measurement).

419 kahikatea-trees, containing about 539,016 sup. ft. (standing measurement).

Distinguishing brand, thus: Λ.

Upset price: £270.

Time for removal of timber: One year.

TERMS OF PAYMENT.

Half in cash on fall of hammer, together with timber-cutting license fee of £1 1s., and half in six months thereafter. The instalment payment shall bear interest at the rate of 5 per cent. per annum as from date of sale, and with the interest added shall be secured by an “on demand” promissory note endorsed by two approved sureties, such bill to be completed and lodged with the Commissioner of Crown Lands within fourteen days after notifying the purchaser to complete.

CONDITIONS.

  1. Intending purchasers are expected to visit the locality and to satisfy themselves in every particular on all matters relating to the sale.

  2. The right is reserved to the Commissioner of Crown Lands to withdraw from sale the above lot of timber either before or during the time of sale.

  3. The afore-mentioned quantity, quality, and kind as to the said timber shall be taken as sufficiently accurate for the purpose of this sale, and no contract for purchase shall be voidable, nor shall the purchaser be entitled to any abatement in price, by reason of the said timber being of less quantity, quality, and kind than as stated herein, or in any advertisement having reference to the said timber, nor shall any extra sum be claimed by the Crown if the said quantity of timber is found to be in excess of that stated herein.

  4. All timber, whether standing, felled, or in logs, shall remain the property of the Crown until the instalment is paid.

  5. The quantities stated are standing measurements, and only those trees bearing the special distinguishing brand stated are included in this sale.

  6. Should any dispute arise as to the boundaries, the decision of the Commissioner of Crown Lands shall be final.

  7. In the event of the above lot not being disposed of, applications may be received and dealt with at any time within six months from date of sale (unless previously formally withdrawn); provided, however, that the amount offered is not less than the upset price stated herein.

Pastoral Runs (Education Endowment) in Southland Land District for License by Public Auction.

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned pastoral runs will be offered for license by public auction at the District Lands and Survey Office, Invercargill, at 11 a.m. on Friday, the 12th day of March, 1915, under the provisions of the Land Act, 1908, and its amendments.

SCHEDULE.

SOUTHLAND LAND DISTRICT.—SOUTHLAND COUNTY.—EDUCATION ENDOWMENT.

Class B.

Lot 1 of 326A, Wakaia and Garvie Survey Districts: Area, 5,830 acres; upset annual rental, £125.

Lot 2 of 326A, Garvie Survey District: Area, 3,568 acres; upset annual rental, £150.

Lot 3 of 326A, Garvie Survey District: Area, 1,445 acres; upset annual rental, £120.

Lot 4 of 326A, Garvie and Wendonside Survey Districts: Area, 1,240 acres; upset annual rental, £120.

Term, twenty-one years from 1st March, 1915. Possession given on day of sale.

The runs are weighted with valuation for fencing as follows: Lot 1 of 326A, 341 chains of boundary and subdivisional fences, £85 6s.; Lot 2 of 326A, 536 chains of boundary and subdivisional fences, £135; Lot 3 of 326A, 237 chains of boundary and subdivisional fences, £84; Lot 4 of 326A, 478 chains of boundary and subdivisional fences, £160 9s.

DESCRIPTIONS OF RUNS.

Lot 1 of 326A contains 5,830 acres. Altitude, from about 940 ft. to 2,500 ft. above sea-level. Mostly hilly, undulating, pastoral country, covered with its original growth, silver tussock, fern, manuka scrub, tutu, and patches of bush and a little flax in places. Well watered by running streams. Fenced along the south-east, part south, and part west boundaries. Bounded on the north and north-east by the Dome Burn, which is practically a natural boundary throughout. Several easy spurs and downs facing the south-east suitable for cultivation—say, about 300 acres. Three water-races in use on the run, with three huts, and telephones connected with each. All mining rights and right of ingress and egress to huts and over telephone lines are reserved. There is a small reserve of 1 acre 3 roods 14 poles round hut and garden at Rob Roy Creek, and 25 links reserve on each side of water-races; but areas are not excluded from the run area. Suitable homestead-site near the south-east corner, and provision is being made for new road to give access to this portion. Distant about four miles and a half from Switzers Railway-station and township. Access by metalled road.
