JAPAN.

WEST COAST.—SHIMONOSEKI STRAIT.—DREDGING.—LIGHT-BUOYS ESTABLISHED.—The following light-buoys have been established for dredging purposes :—
Light-buoy No. 1, black, showing an occulting green light, 1,100 yards 182° 30′ from Hiyori Yama (296 ft.) summit.
Light-buoy No. 2, black, showing an occulting green light, 1,210 yards 169° from Hiyori Yama.
Light-buoy No. 3, black, showing a flashing white light with 1 group of 2 flashes, 1,410 yards 162° 30′ from Hiyori Yama.
Light-buoy No. 4, red, showing an occulting white light, 1,280 yards 150° from Hiyori Yama.
NOTE.—These light-buoys may be moved from time to time as the work progresses.

INDIA.

Examination Service.—Port of Madras.

The attention of masters of vessels is called to the Public Traffic Regulations, Port of Madras, Part I (f and g).
Masters of vessels are warned that when approaching the Port of Madras they should make for the examination anchorage off Cassimode buoy, and not proceed towards the entrance of the harbour until permission has been granted for them to do so.
Neglect of these precautions renders their vessels liable to be fired on.

Government Offices to be closed on Tuesday, 30th November (St. Andrew’s Day).

Notice of Vesting of Land in the Public Trustee under the Public Trust Office Act, 1908, Part II, Unclaimed Lands.

WHEREAS the Public Trustee has, for the purpose of Part II of the Public Trust Office Act, 1908, and its amendments (relating to unclaimed lands), made due inquiries with respect to the land described in the Schedule hereunder, and the whereabouts of the owner thereof, and has, in respect of the said land, given the notices prescribed by section 66 of the said Act, and has in all respects complied with the provisions of that Act pertinent hereto: And whereas the Public Trustee has not thereby ascertained the whereabouts of the owner or of any agent of such owner in New Zealand, nor has such owner established his title to the said land, as required by the said Act :
Now, I, the undersigned, the Public Trustee, hereby give notice that the said land is, under and by virtue of the said Act, vested in the Public Trustee as aforesaid, as from the date of the publication hereof, and will be administered under the Public Trust Office Act, 1908, and its amendments ; the value of the land for the purposes of section 67 (d) of the said Act being less than £100.

SCHEDULE.

ALL that parcel of land, in the Provincial District of Auckland, containing by admeasurement 50 acres, more or less, being Allotment 138, Parish of Waimana, County of Opotiki. Bounded towards the east by high-water mark of the Oh wa Harbour; towards the south-east by Allotment 139, 4515 links; towards the south-west by a road 100 links wide, 1124 links; and towards the north-west by Allotments 137, 136, 5400 links.

Registration of Unregistered Births.

THE attention of the public is drawn to the opportunity afforded for a limited time—i.e., twelve months from the 11th October, 1915—to persons, or the parents of persons, who were born in New Zealand before the 11th April, 1915, but whose births have not previously been registered, of effecting a special registration by application to the Registrar-General, Wellington.
By section 9 of the Births and Deaths Registration Amendment Act, 1915, it is enacted that the Registrar-General may register the birth of any child born in New Zealand previous to the period of six months before the passing of the Act but whose birth has not previously been registered: Provided that satisfactory evidence on oath, and such other proof as he may deem necessary, of the fact, time, and place of birth, and of the particulars of the parents, shall be received by the Registrar-General within twelve months after the passing of the Act, and that on application to have such birth registered a fee of five shillings shall be paid to the Registrar-General.

2. Applications (to be made on P.S.C. Form 17A, obtainable at principal post-offices) must be addressed to the Secretary to the Public Service Commissioner, Wellington, and must embrace a statement of education and experience, particulars of age, &c.
3. Applicants should have had an education in agricultural science, and should be thoroughly versed in farm practice; some training and experience in experimental methods is also required.
The appointment will be subject to the provisions of the Public Service Act, 1912.
The position will be graded in the Professional Division, Class E. Salary, £260.

APPLICATIONS will be received by the undersigned up till noon on the 30th October, 1915, for the position of Buildings Overseer, Public Works Department, Wellington.
2. Applications (to be made on P.S.C. Form 17A, obtainable at principal post-offices) must be addressed to the Secretary to the Public Service Commissioner, Wellington, and must embrace a statement of education and experience, particulars of age, &c.
3. Applicants must be first-class carpenters and joiners, and have a good knowledge of all branches of the building trades, also of cabinetmaking, upholstery, office fittings and appliances.
4. Applicants must be capable of taking out quantities of materials and of preparing plans, reports, and estimates (both of materials and labour), and all classes of work connected with alterations and additions to buildings, fittings, and furnishing.
Applicants must furnish a Sixth Standard certificate of education.
The appointment will be subject to the provisions of the Public Service Act, 1912.
The position will be graded in the General Division. Salary, £235.
