FITCHETT,\nPublic Trustee.\n\nNotice to Mariners No. 84 of 1915.\nFIRTH OF THAMES.—PIAKO RIVER.—LEADING-LIGHTS.\nMarine Department,\nWellington, N.Z., 8th October, 1915.\nNOTICE is hereby given that on and after 1st November,\n1915, two leading beacon lights will be exhibited\nbetween sunset and sunrise from the Pipiroa or western side\nof the Piako River, to indicate as nearly as possible the\nfairway at low water.\nBoth beacons are painted red, and are constructed similar\nto a mast, stayed by wire ropes, and built into a platform\nraised above H.W.S.T.\nThe front beacon is 17 ft. above H.W., and about 8 cables\ninland from the beach-line of scrub on the eastern side of\nthe entrance at ordinary high water, and about 4½ cables\ninland from the beach-line of scrub on the western side.\nThe rear beacon, which is 37 ft. above H.W. is about\n2 cables inland from the front beacon. Both beacons show\nwhite lights from a height of 13 ft. and 33 ft. respectively over\nan arc of visibility of 54° from 145° (S. 50° E. magnetic) to\n199° (S. 4° W. magnetic), and in line with one another bear\n172° (S. 23° E. magnetic).\n
