| Prohibitions.—Base or counterfeit coin, articles infringing trade-mark or copyright laws, oilskins or other similar oiled goods, oiled paper, carbon paper (except typewriting carbon paper, which may be accepted provided that the sender certifies the contents on the Customs declaration in the following terms : “Typewriting carbon paper coated with wax and containing no oxidizable, oily, or fatty substance”), live animals (except bees in properly constructed cases), oilskins and similar goods. No parcel may contain coin, unless clearly intended for purposes of ornament, or bullion exceeding £5 sterling in value, addressed to the United Kingdom or for certain places in transit through the United Kingdom. Observations.—No compensation is paid in respect of loss or damage of uninsured parcels or their contents. Flowers should be enclosed in boxes of wood or metal and not in cardboard. | United Kingdom. |
| Prohibitions.—Publications which violate copyright laws, poisons, fatty substances, liquids and those which easily liquefy, viscous matter, dead animals (except dead insects and reptiles when thoroughly dried), feathers and skins of wild birds (except ostrich feathers) unless intended for scientific or educational purposes; all growing or living plants, seeds and other plant products for propagation (except field, vegetable, and flower seeds) unless addressed to the Department of Agriculture, Washington, potatoes, cotton seeds and pods, fruits and vegetables which easily decompose; lottery-tickets, lottery advertisements or lottery circulars, nursery stock (unless addressed to the Department of Agriculture, Washington, D.C.), cigars and cigarettes in quantities numbering less than 3,000 in a single packet. Sealskins and articles wholly or in part made from them are not admissible unless accompanied by American Consul’s certificate of origin. Articles contained in sealed tins are prohibited. Observations.—Parcels may be registered to the United States of America. No compensation is paid in respect of loss or damage of parcels or their contents. Parcels must be so wrapped or enclosed as to permit their contents to be easily examined by Postmasters or Customs officers. No parcel may be sealed with sealing-wax or closed by the use of any adhesive substance which would prevent the opening of the package easily and without damage to its cover. Boxes with lids screwed or nailed on may be used, and bags closed by means of sewing. If the value of the goods (exclusive of papers such as stocks, bonds, &c., of no commercial value) contained in a parcel or in several parcels sent at the same time by one sender to the same addressee, exceeds £20 10s., or 100 dollars, an invoice certified by a United States Consul must be furnished. To avoid delay it is desirable that this invoice should accompany the parcel or parcels, but the sender, if he prefers, may send it direct to the addressee. In either case the relative Customs Declaration should be suitably noted. Parcels cannot be redirected to the United States of America unless the redirection fee is prepaid. | United States of America. |
