POST.—TABLE OF RATES OF POSTAGE, ETC.—continued.
Special Prohibitions and Observations.
Prohibitions.—Salt; substances which easily liquefy unless enclosed in hermetically sealed receptacles, bullion exceeding £5 in value, oilskins and similar goods.
Observations.—The senders of all parcels must indicate, by means of a label attached to the cover of the parcel, whether, in the event of non-delivery within twenty-eight days of its arrival at the destination, it shall (a) be treated as abandoned, or (b) returned at the sender's expense. No other alternative is permissible.
Prohibitions.—Pharmaceutical preparations unless addressed to persons authorized by law to buy, sell, or receive such articles; gooseberries or gooseberry bushes; fresh meat, raw hides or skins of ruminating animals and pigs.
Prohibitions.—Bullion exceeding £5 in value, oilskins and similar goods, cotton-seed (unless originating in Egypt or addressed to the Director of Agriculture when intended for experimental purposes), potato-seed, seeds or plants of the Albizzia tree (unless originating in Australia). Seeds or living or dried plants originating in Ceylon, India, Straits Settlements, Dutch East Indies, Guatemala, Central American States, Mauritius, Zanzibar, German East Africa, Congo Free State, and Natal may only be imported on production at the Zomba Post-office of a special permit signed by the Governor of the Protectorate. Seeds or plants from other countries must be accompanied by reasonable proof of origin such as invoices, bills of lading, or certificate of origin.
Observations.—No parcel may exceed £50 in value. No compensation is paid in respect of loss or damage of uninsured parcels or their contents. Insurance confined to Blantyre, Chiromo, Fort Johnston, Port Herald, and Zomba (see clause 20, p. 2981). Parcels for persons authorized to live in the British Concession, Chinde, are admitted at the rate for Nyasaland Protectorate. The description “Resident in the British Concession” should appear in the address. Such parcels cannot be insured. A charge of 6d. for stamp duty, clearance, &c., is levied on every dutiable parcel entering the Protectorate.
Prohibitions.—Bullion exceeding £5 in value, oilskins and similar goods.
Prohibitions.—Same as United States of America.
Observations.—United States Post-offices have been established at the following places in the Canal Zone—i.e., Ancon, Ancon Station A, Balboa, Bas Obispo, Bohio, Corozal, Cristobal, Culebra, Empire, Gatun, Gorgona, Las Cascadas, Matachin Miraflores, Paraiso, Pedro Miguel, San Pablo, and Tabernilla.
Prohibitions.—Same as Australia.
Observations.—When the sender wishes to undertake the payment of Customs and other charges, a deposit of 1s. for every 4s. or fraction of 4s. of the value of the parcel is required. No compensation is given for the loss or damage of parcels or their contents.
Prohibitions.—Via Monte Video: Same as Uruguay. Via London: Articles of gold and silver, jewellery, &c.; corrosive fluids, orchilla or litmus and its derivatives, liquids or semi-liquids, plants or living parts of plants, grapes, coin, bullion exceeding £5 in value, oilskins and similar goods.
Observations.—Maximum weight, 7 lb.
