Prohibitions.—Same as Australia. Observations.—No compensation is paid for the loss or damage of parcels or their contents. Gilbert and Ellice Islands Protectorate.
Prohibitions.—Bullion exceeding £5 in value, firearms, ammunition, machines for making or filling cartridges, oilskins and similar goods. Observations.—The senders of all parcels must indicate, by means of a label attached to the cover of the parcel, whether, in the event of non-delivery within twenty-eight days of its arrival at the office of destination, it shall be (a) treated as abandoned or (b) returned at the sender’s expense. No other alternative is permissible. Insurance confined to parcels for Accra, Abosso, Axim, Cape Coast, Coomassi, Dunkwa, Kwitta, Obuasi, Prestea, Sekondi, Tarkwa, and Winnebah (see clause 20, p. 2981). Parcels which have to be transmitted overland to their destination from the port of disembarkation are liable to a forward charge of one-third the original postage, which is collected from the addressees. No compensation is paid in respect of loss or damage of uninsured parcels caused during landing or embarkation in the colony, or for loss or damage of uninsured parcels addressed to places in Ashanti over three miles from the railway. Gold Coast Colony.
Prohibitions.—Playing-cards, cigarette-papers, salt, and other articles which fall within the monopoly of the Greek Government; saccharine and its products; vines and parts thereof (including grapes); plants and parts thereof (including fruit); madder and liquorice; used vine-props; vegetable manures and earths; raw hide, wool, horns, hoofs, bones, and other parts of oxen and sheep, and unmanufactured horsehair (unless accompanied by a certificate of origin granted by a competent authority stating that the place of origin is not infected with trichina); coin, bullion exceeding £5 in value, oilskins and similar goods. Observations.—Parcels which do not measure more than 8 in. in depth or breadth may be as much as 3 ft. 3 in. in length. Greece.
Prohibitions.—Oilskins and similar goods, bullion exceeding £5 in value. Greenland.
Grenada.
Guadaloupe.
Prohibitions.—Apparatus for making money; police-whistles; poisons; firearms; bullion exceeding £5 in value; oilskins and similar goods. Observations.—Parcels must be claimed by the addressees at the Chief Office, Guatemala. No compensation is paid in respect of loss or damage of parcels or their contents. Guatemala.
Hawaiian Islands.
Observations.—The parcel-post extends to Aquin, Cape Haitien, Cayes, Gonaives, Jacmel, Jeremie, Miragoane, Petit-Goave, Port-au-Prince, Port-de-Paix, and St. Marc only. Hayti.
Prohibitions.—Pirated editions of copyright works, coin, bullion exceeding £5 in value, dies for coining, articles excluded by the Phylloxera Convention, grapes; uncured hides, wool, and hair of animals (other than pigs’ bristles prepared for the manufacture of brushes), except by permission of the Minister of Agriculture; plants from America; gooseberry, currant, and raspberry plants, as well as the material in which they have been packed; other plants unless accompanied by a certificate of origin; oilskins and similar goods.
