  • The allowance for Torpedo Gunner’s stores is payable only when the ship is allowed a Lieutenant (T)
    or Gunner (T) in complement. In other ships such stores are to be considered as part of the Gunner’s
    stores, and no extra allowance is payable on their account.

In the event of warrant officers’ stores being placed in charge of a commissioned
officer (other than a commissioned warrant officer), allowances on the above scale may
be paid, but these stores are not to be placed in charge of such officers when a competent
commissioned warrant officer or warrant officer is available.

The rules in regard to the payment of store allowances at the end of Appendix VII,
King’s Regulations and Admiralty Instructions, 1913, Vol. II, are to govern the payment
of the above allowances in the New Zealand Naval Forces, where applicable.

PAY AND ALLOWANCES, PETTY OFFICERS AND MEN
(SEA-GOING).

  1. (i.) The following rates of “active pay,” “deferred pay,” and allow-
    ances shall apply to petty officers, men, and boys entered for sea-going Naval
    service under the New Zealand Government on and after the 15th July,

With the exception of Officers’ Stewards, Officers’ Cooks, and Ships’
Musicians, all ratings will be required to execute engagements to serve for
a first period of seven years from date of entry, or from the date of attain-
ing eighteen years, if such date is subsequent to date of entry.

Ratings may be allowed to re-engage for further periods of seven years if
recommended by the Commanding Officer of the ship or establishment in
which they are serving and approved by the New Zealand Naval Authority.

Ratings lent from the Active List of the Royal Navy will be required
to engage for three years’ service, which period may in special circum-
stances be extended. Officers’ Stewards, Officers’ Cooks, and Ships’ Musi-
cians will be required to engage or re-engage for three years’ service.

All previous service in Royal Navy or Royal Marines will be allowed to
count for rates of pay, good-conduct badges, and other allowances as if
served under the New Zealand Government.
