Appointment of an Officer to the Territorial Force.

HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to approve of the undermentioned appointment :—

Corps of New Zealand Engineers.

Frederick Valentine Waters, Esq., to be Acting Director of Post and Telegraph Services, with the temporary rank of Colonel, during the absence on leave of Colonel William Russell Morris, Director of Post and Telegraph Services.

Appointments, Promotions, and Transfers of Officers of the Territorial Force.

HIS Excellency the Governor is respectfully advised to approve of the following appointments, promotions, and transfers of Officers of the Territorial Force and the New Zealand Forces Motor Reserve of Officers :—

Unattached List (a).

2nd Lieutenant (on probation) Walter Woolton Averill, from the Unattached List (b), to be 2nd Lieutenant.

Ian McPherson Macdonald to be 2nd Lieutenant (on probation).

Unattached List (b).

2nd Lieutenant (on probation) Walter Woolton Averill is transferred to the Unattached List (a).


New Zealand Forces Motor Reserve of Officers.

William Beauchamp-Platts to be Captain.

Captain William Beauchamp-Platts to be Staff Officer.

Captain Norton Francis to be Major.

John Anderson to be Lieutenant.

(Wellington Section.)

William Harold Lambert to be Captain.

Dudley Kettle to be Lieutenant.

Territorial Officers to temporarily Command a Regiment.

Wellington, 20th August, 1914.

HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to approve of the following appointment of an officer of the Territorial Force :—

5th (Wellington) Regiment.

Major Alfred de Bathe Brandon, New Zealand Forces Motor Reserve of Officers, to be Major, to complete establishment, and to command the 1st Battalion temporarily during the period of employment of Lieutenant-Colonel Charles Harcourt Turner with the New Zealand Expeditionary Force.

Major Alfred de Bathe Brandon is granted the temporary rank of Lieutenant-Colonel while commanding a battalion.
