Bounded to the eastward by a line commencing at the north-western corner of Section 2598; thence in a southerly direction along the boundary of the said section for a distance of 496·6 links; thence across a road 100 links wide; thence continuing in the same direction for a distance of 487·3 links; thence in a westerly direction along the northern boundary of Section 3244 for a distance of 770·5 links; thence across a road reserve in a south-westerly direction for a distance of 180·6 links; thence in a southerly direction along the western boundary of the said road reserve for a distance of 680 links; thence in a westerly direction along the northern boundary of Section 2 for a distance of 399·6 links; thence in a general northerly direction along a road reserve 1 chain in width along the shores of Tasman Sea for a distance of 2700 links; thence across a road reserve in a north-easterly direction for a distance of 265·3 links; thence in a general northerly and easterly direction along the boundary of a road reserve 1 chain in width along the southern bank of the Punakaiki River for a distance of 1430 links; thence across a road reserve in a south-easterly direction for a distance of 540 links to the point of commencement: be all the aforesaid linkages more or less: save and excepting thereout all roads, road reserves, and Gravel Reserve 1085: as the same is delineated on the plan marked L. and S. IV/6D, deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands and Survey, at Wellington, and thereon coloured red.

Also all that area in the Westland Land District, containing by admeasurement 48 acres, more or less, being Section 970, Block I, Punakaiki Survey District. Bounded towards the north-west by Section 2598 for 1010·8 links; towards the north-east by a road reserve along the western bank of the Punakaiki River for the distances of 1502·8, 2004·7, and 1300 links; towards the south-east by Section 2600 for 1112·4 links; and towards the south-west by Sections 2599 and 2598 for 4693·3 links: be all the aforesaid linkages more or less: as the same is delineated on the plan marked L. and S. IV/6E, deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands and Survey, at Wellington, and thereon coloured red.

Lands reserved under the Scenery Preservation Act, 1908.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by the Scenery Preservation Act, 1908 (hereinafter referred to as “the said Act”), a Scenery Preservation Board is constituted, and it is enacted that such Board shall, when so directed by the Minister charged for the time being with the administration of the said Act, inspect any lands possessing scenic or historic interest, or on which there are thermal springs, and make inquiries respecting the same, and report to the Governor; and shall from time to time recommend what lands, whether Crown or private, shall be permanently reserved as scenic, thermal, or historic reserves: And whereas the said Board was duly directed to inspect and report on the lands described in the Schedule hereunder, and has recommended that the said lands should be permanently reserved for scenic purposes, and it is expedient to give effect to such recommendation:

Now, therefore, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the powers contained in the said Act, do hereby proclaim and declare that the lands described in the Schedule hereunder shall be scenic reserves under the Scenery Preservation Act, 1908, and subject to the provisions thereof.


SCHEDULE.

WAIHO AND ATUPAU RIVERS.

ALL that area in the Westland Land District, containing 129 acres, more or less, being Reserve 1020, Block VII, Waiho Survey District, and bounded as follows: Starting at the northernmost point of Section 2976, bounded on the south-east by that section, 3954·5 links, and Section 2977 for 3400 links; on the south generally by road reserve on the Waiho River, 713·4 links, 981·7 links, and 731·2 links; on the north-west generally by Pratt Road, 997·8 links, 569·2 links, 317·6 links, 499·6 links, 669·5 links, 1001·8 links, 892·1 links, 1611·1 links, 854·9 links, 688·6 links, 993 links, and 895·3 links; and on the north-east by road reserve on the left bank of the Atupau River, 1614 links: be all the aforesaid linkages more or less: as the same is delineated on the plan marked L. and S. 621/5A, deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands and Survey, at Wellington, and thereon bordered red.

Also all that area in the Westland Land District, containing 46 acres 2 roods 8 perches, more or less, being Reserve 1369, Block VII, Waiho Survey District, and bounded as follows: Starting at the south-eastern corner of Section 2977, bounded on the north-west by that section, 2700 links, and by Section 2976 for 2717·2 links; on the north-east by road reserve on the left bank of the Atupau River, 857·3 links; on the south-east by main South Road, 5700·9 links; and on the south-west by road reserve on the right bank of the Waiho River, 958·4 links: be all the aforesaid linkages more or less: as the same is delineated on the plan marked L. and S. 621/5B, deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands and Survey, at Wellington, and thereon bordered red.

FRANZ JOSEF SCENIC RESERVE.

All that area in the Westland Land District, containing about 48,500 acres, being Reserve 1461, situated within the Survey Districts of Waiho, Waitangi-taona, and Mount Cook, and bounded as follows: Starting at the south-western corner of Section 2197, and following the southern boundary of that section for a distance of 8929·3 links; thence across a road, 100 links; thence along the southern boundary of Section 2199 for 4731·6 links; thence down the western side of Reserve 339 for 597·2 links to the south-western corner thereof, and by the southern boundary of the said reserve 5261·1 links; and thence across road reserve to the left bank of the Waiho River, 696·2 links; thence in a northerly direction along the said bank a distance of 5 chains, crossing the river to the side peg east of road peg VIII; thence in a north-easterly direction 80 chains to the left bank of the Atupau River; and thence along the said bank to the main branch below the Glacier; and thence along that branch to McFettrick Peak; and thence to the northward and eastward of the glaciers at the head of the Wataroa River; and thence between Callery and Whymper Glaciers to Elie de Beaumont; thence along the main range to Mount Tuckett; thence along the spur generally in a north-westerly direction to Mount Roon, skirting the south-western side of the glacier lying to the south-west of Franz Josef Glacier to Moltke Peak; thence to the head-waters of Docherty Creek and along the right bank of that creek to a point due west of the south-western corner of Section 2197; and thence due east 3 chains to the point of commencement: be all the aforesaid distances more or less: as the same is delineated on the plan marked L. and S. 621/5C, deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands and Survey, at Wellington, and thereon coloured red.
