The velocity of the current was so great at ebb tide that the buoy in its former position was towed under and completely submerged.
BRITISH COLUMBIA.
FITZHUGH SOUND.—ADDENBROOKE ISLAND.—LIGHT AND FOG-SIGNAL ESTABLISHED.—On 15th April, 1914, a 4th-order dioptric fixed white light of 1,500 candle-power was established on the western end of Addenbrooke Island, Fitzhugh Sound, British Columbia.
The light is exhibited 81 ft. above high water from a red, octagonal, iron lantern rising from the middle of the hip roof of a white, square, wooden dwelling erected 123 ft. back from the water’s edge. The height of the building from its base to the top of the ventilator on the lantern is 38 ft.
A fog-bell sounded by machinery, a single stroke every 5 seconds, was also established.
Approx. position: Lat. 51° 36′ 10″ N., long. 127° 52′ W.
SOUTH AUSTRALIA.
WEST COAST.—CARAWA JETTY LIGHT.—Masters of vessels and others are hereby informed that on the 1st day of June, 1914, the red sector will be removed from the Carawa Jetty light, and that thereafter a fixed white light will be shown over an arc of 180° between the bearings of 84° (N. 81° E. mag.) round by north to 264° (S. 81° W. mag.). The light will be visible in clear weather at a distance of 9 nautical miles.
Approximate position: Lat. 32° 31¼′ S., long. 134° 12½′ E. This affects Admiralty Chart No. 1061.

LYTTELTON HARBOUR.—RE LIGHTED AND WHISTLING BUOY OFF HARBOUR ENTRANCE.

THE Lyttelton Harbour Board have notified that on Wednesday, 1st July, 1914, a large lighted and whistling buoy will be moored off the entrance to Lyttelton Harbour, in a position ten cables from Godley Head, and seven and a half from Adderley Head.
The buoy is of steel 9 ft. 6 in. in diameter, and about 7 ft. 6 in. deep, with parallel sides, with a light of 750 candle-power at a height of 16 ft. 5 in. above the surface of the water, and a range of 13 miles in clear weather. The light will be compressed acetylene, arranged to burn six months without attention, and to give a flash every 3 seconds.
The buoy is also fitted with a 10 in. whistle worked by the rise and fall of the buoy on the waves, and has provision for the installation of an under-water bell, which can be fitted when arrangements are made for the receipt of such signals by steamers trading in and to the Dominion.

Notice to Mariners No. 61 of 1914.
HOKIANGA RIVER ENTRANCE.—BAR CHANNEL SHOALED SUDDENLY.

NOTICE is hereby given that the bar off entrance to Hokianga has shoaled very suddenly, and until fresh soundings are taken there is no certainty where the channel has shifted to, though the Harbourmaster believes that the deepest water should be further north.
The “Ihumata,” drawing 16 ft., grounded in centre of channel where the Government steamer “Hinemoa” found 27 ft. at same time of tide two weeks ago.

FORMOSA.
Pescadores Channel.—Onkan Tai Lighthouse.
A FLASHING light is now exhibited from the new lighthouse which has been erected on Onkan Tai, as follows:—
Name: Onkan Tai Lighthouse.
Position: Latitude 23° 31′ 31″ N., longitude 120° 2′ E. (according to the Japanese Admiralty Chart No. 236).
Construction and painting: Iron lattice tower, painted black.
Height of light from the base: 50 ft.
Height of light above the water: 58 ft.
Order and character of light: 5th-order white flashing light by acetylene gas, showing one flash during every two seconds.
Illumination arc: The whole horizon.
Candle-power: 800.
Distance visible: 13½ nautical miles in clear weather.
Note.—The light is unwatched. Should it go out by accident, there may be some delay before relighting it. Mariners are cautioned accordingly.

Notice to Mariners No. 63 of 1914.
AUCKLAND HARBOUR.—WRECK OFF KING’S WHARF.

Wellington, N.Z., 24th June, 1914.
NOTICE is hereby given that the scow “Pahiki” was sunk in collision this morning, and now lies in the following position: Light-tower, King’s Wharf, bearing 213° (S. 18° W. magnetic); Trig.-station, Stoke’s Point, bearing 292° (N. 83° W. magnetic). Topmast projects 6 ft. above high water, and a green flag is placed thereon. A green buoy marking wreck is moored 50 ft. south of wreck. The wreck will be marked at night by two white lights, horizontal, 10 ft. apart, and 10 ft. above high water.
