MALACCA STRAIT.—PENANG HARBOUR.
BAGAN JERMAL.—BEACON LIGHTS TO BE ALTERED IN
COLOUR.—Date of Alteration: 15th May, 1914. Position:
(a.) On the line of telephone cable, and close eastward of
harbour mark on Bagan Jermal. (b.) On the line of telephone
cable and at a distance of 3 cables westward from (a). Bagan
Jermal, lat. 5° 25′ N., long. 100° 22¾′ E. Details: The colour
of the fixed lights exhibited on these beacons will be altered
from white to red. Remarks: The other details of the lights
will remain unaltered. Note: No further notice will be given.
AUSTRALIA.—NORTH-WEST COAST.
AIRLIE ISLAND.—LIGHT ESTABLISHED.—Position: On
centre of island. Lat. 21° 19′ 25″ S., long. 115° 9′ 50″ E., on
Chart No. 3187. Abridged description: Lt. gp. fl. (3) ev.
9 secs., 91 ft., vis. 15 m. (U). Details: Character—a group
flashing white light showing a group of three flashes every
nine seconds—thus, flash 0·3 sec., eclipse 0·9 sec.; flash
0·3 sec., eclipse 0·9 sec.; flash 0·3 sec., eclipse 6·3 secs.
Elevation—91 ft. Visibility—15 miles. Structure—red
framework tower, 61 ft. in height. Note: The light is un-
watched. Charts affected: No. 3187, Mangrove Islands to
North-west Cape; No. 3186, Mary Anne Passage; No. 1055,
Bedout Island to Cape Cuvier; No. 2759a, Australia, northern

ERECTON OF LIGHTHOUSES.—Details: Lighthouses are in
course of construction on the undermentioned islands and
reefs; mariners are warned that camp fires, lights, &c., may
be seen in these localities during the erection of the light-
houses:—
(a.) Clerke Island. Position: On eastern end of island.
Lat. 11° 58½′ S., long. 143° 17¼′ E.
(b.) Piper Islands. Position: On eastern edge of eastern
reef. Lat. 12° 15¼′ S., long. 143° 15′ E.
(c.) Chapman Island. Position: On western edge of reef.
Lat. 12° 53¼′ S., long. 143° 35½′ E.
(d.) Tih Tih (tt) Reef. Position: Lat. 13° 9′ S., long.
143° 36¾′ E.
(e.) Heath Reef. Position: Lat. 13° 28½′ S., long. 143°
40¾′ E.
(f.) Dhu (d.) Reef. Position: On eastern end of reef.
Lat. 14° 7¾′ S., long. 144° ½′ E.
(g.) Coquet Island. Position: On western end of island.

ENGLAND, SOUTH COAST PORTSMOUTH APPROACH.
OWERS LIGHT-VESSEL.—WRECK SOUTH-SOUTH-EASTWARD
OF.—Position: At a distance of about 1½ miles south-south-
eastward of Owers Light-vessel. Lat. 50° 36′ N., long.
0° 39¼′ W. Description: Sunken wreck of the S.S. “Carbi-
neer.”
HAWAIIAN ISLANDS.
MAUI ISLAND.—KAUIKI HEAD LIGHT.—CHARACTERISTIC
TO BE CHANGED.—NEW STRUCTURE.—About 20th April, 1914,
the characteristic of the light at Kauiki Head, Maui Island,
Hawaiian Islands, will be changed from fixed red to an un-
watched flashing white light of 240 candle-power every
2 seconds—thus, flash 0·5 second, eclipsed 1·5 seconds.
The new light will be exhibited 85 ft. above high water
and 12 ft. above the ground from a gray pyramidal concrete
tower erected 5 yards 300° from the present light.
The old mast and service room will be removed on the same
date.
Approx. position: Lat. 20° 45′ 30″ N., long. 155° 58′ 30″
W.
HILO BAY.—KUHIO BAY.—INTENDED CHANGES IN BUOY-
AGE.—About 8th May, 1914, the following changes will be
made in the buoyage of Kuhio Bay, Hilo Bay, Hawaiian
Islands:—
Blonde Reef South End buoy 1 will be renamed Entrance
buoy 1, without other change.
Cocoanut Island Reef buoy 2 will be renamed Entrance
buoy 2, moved 155 yards 84° from its present position
and re-established in about 6¼ fathoms.
Channel buoy 4, a second-class nun, will be established
in about 6 fathoms.
Channel buoy 6, a second-class nun, will be established
in about 5¾ fathoms.
Channel buoy 3, a second-class can, will be established
in about 5¾ fathoms.
Channel buoy 5, a second-class can, will be established
in about 5¾ fathoms.
Channel buoy 7, a second-class can, will be established
in about 4¼ fathoms.
Channel buoy 9, a second-class can, will be established
in about 6 fathoms.
WASHINGTON.
PUGET AND WASHINGTON SOUNDS.—BUOYS TO BE ESTA-
BLISHED.—About 1st May, 1914, the following buoys will
be established in Puget and Washington Sounds, Washing-
ton:—
Double Bluff buoy 1, a first-class iron spar, in 10 fathoms
of water, on the bearings: Double Bluff, left tangent,
6° 45′; Double Bluff, right tangent, 71°; Foulweather
Bluff, tangent, 238°.
Possession Point buoy 1, a first-class iron spar, in 10
fathoms of water, on the bearings: Muckilteo Light-
house, 45° 30′; Point No Point Lighthouse, 278° 45′;
Possession Point, left tangent, 332°.
West Point Buoy 1, a first-class wooden spar, in 5 fathoms
of water, on the bearings: West Point Lighthouse, 52°;
Alki Point Lighthouse, 171° 15′; Wing Point, tangent,
222°.
COLUMBIA RIVER.—SAND ISLAND LIGHT TO BE DISCON-
TINUED.—On 1st May, 1914, Sand Island light, Columbia
River, Washington, will be permanently discontinued.
Approx. position: Lat. 46° 15′ 35″ N., long. 123° 57′ 50″ W.
CHINA.
YANGTZE RIVER.—LANGSHAN CROSSING.—NORTH TREE
LIGHT-BEACON MOVED.—The Chinese Government has given
notice that North Tree lighted beacon, Langshan Crossing,
Yangtze River, China, has been moved 2 miles 345° 45′ from
its former position and re-established 3·63 miles 311° from
Langshan Pagoda.

JAPAN.
SOUTHERN ISLANDS.—VOLCANO (KAZAN) ISLANDS.—SAN
AUGUSTINO ISLAND (MINAMI IWO JIMA).—VOLCANIC ISLAND
TO EASTWARD.—FURTHER INFORMATION.—The Japanese Go-
vernment has given notice that the new volcanic island which
has recently risen eastward of San Augustino Island (Minami
Iwo Jima), Volcano (Kazan) Islands, Southern Islands, Japan,
is about 400 ft. high, instead of 1,000 ft. as previously stated,
and is located 3 miles 17° 20′ from San Augustino Island in
(approximately) latitude 24° 16′ 30″ N., longitude 141° 29′ E.
A shoal with a depth of 10 fathoms over it has been dis-
covered 2·9 miles 20° 20′ from the volcanic island.
This shoal has been placed on the charts and marked “P.D.”
CALIFORNIA.
SAN FRANCISCO BAY.—ALVISO CHANNEL.—BEACON DE-
STROYED.—Alviso Channel beacon No. 10, San Francisco
Bay, California, was destroyed 14th April, 1914. This
beacon will be rebuilt as soon as practicable.
Approx. position: Lat. 37° 29′ 33″ N., long. 122° 5′ 22″ W.

OREGON.
COLUMBIA RIVER ENTRANCE.—CLATSOP SPIT.—GAS AND
BELL BUOY ESTABLISHED.—BUOY DISCONTINUED.—On 10th
April, 1904, Clatsop Spit gas and bell buoy 12, cylindrical,
with pyramidal skeleton superstructure, showing a flashing
red light of about 50 candle-power every 3 seconds—thus,
flash 0·3 second, eclipsed 2·7 seconds—was established at the
entrance to the Columbia River, Oregon, on the bearings—
Entrance range front light . . . . 71°
South Jetty, tank . . . . 155°
Cape Disappointment Lighthouse . . 325°
The illuminating apparatus is a 200-millimeter lens lantern
burning acetylene gas.
Clatsop Spit buoy 12, a first-class nun, was discontinued
on the same date.
COLUMBIA RIVER ENTRANCE.—CLATSOP SPIT GAS AND BELL
BUOY MOVED.—On 13th April, 1914, Clatsop Spit gas and
bell buoy 12, Columbia River entrance, Oregon, was moved
about 260 yards 189°, and re-established in 5 fathoms of
water on the bearings—

South Jetty, tank . . . . 152° 0′
Cape Disappointment Lighthouse . . 327° 0′
