Empire Day to be observed as a Holiday on King's Birthday.

EMPIRE DAY will be celebrated on Wednesday, the 3rd June proximo, the anniversary of the birthday of His Majesty the King, and that day will be observed as a public holiday in the Government offices throughout the Dominion.

Varied Notice (No. 2) fixing Closing-hours of (1) Stationers', News Agents' and Fancy-goods Dealers', (2) Watchmakers and Jewellers', and (3) Hairdressers and Tobacconists' Shops in the Borough of Taumarunui under the Shops and Offices Act.
WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the (1) stationers', news agents' and fancy-goods dealers', (2) watchmakers and jewellers', and (3) hairdressers and tobacconists' shops in the Borough of Taumarunui, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the borough shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, 8 o'clock p.m.; Wednesday, 1 o'clock p.m.; Saturday, 10 o'clock p.m.:
And whereas the Taumarunui Borough Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the trades referred to within the borough:
Now, therefore, I, Francis Henry Dillon Bell, acting for and on behalf of the Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that from and after the 1st day of June, 1914, all such shops in the Borough of Taumarunui shall be closed in accordance with such requisition.
The notices gazetted on (1) 27th April, 1911, so far as hairdressers and tobacconists' shops are concerned, and (2) 22nd May, 1913, are hereby varied accordingly.
