  1. The term “racing year” means a period of twelve months, commencing on the 1st day of August in each year.
  2. The applicants for a license must satisfy the Minister that due provision has been made for the conduct of the proposed race meeting, and that the date or dates proposed are not coincident with dates fixed for race meetings at other neighbouring places. The applicants should in general obtain from the authorities of the racing or trotting conferences respectively approval of the proposed programme and dates prior to presenting the application.
  3. Nothing herein contained shall be so construed as to prevent the Minister of Internal Affairs from imposing on the issue of any license any other conditions which he thinks fit in the particular case.

APPLICATION FOR A LICENSE TO CONDUCT HORSE-RACES.
The Race Meetings Act, 1909.
To the Minister of Internal Affairs, Wellington.
We, the undersigned officers and members of the [Name of racing club], being a racing club within the meaning of the Race Meetings Act, 1909, hereby apply on behalf of that club for a license under the said Act to conduct horse-races at [State name of town or other locality] on the day of , 19 .
The said club is [Insert description of club, stating purposes for which it is established, the number of its members, the names, occupations, and addresses of its officers, and whether the club is registered or not].
Enclosed is a copy of the programme of the proposed race meeting, giving particulars of the proposed races, the amount of entrance money, and the stakes for each race. A copy of the latest balance-sheet is also enclosed.
The racecourse on which the races are to be held is [Insert locality and name of racecourse].

The Race Meetings Act, 1909.
In pursuance of the power vested in him by the Race Meetings Act, 1909, the Minister of Internal Affairs has granted license and authority to the [Insert name of racing club] to conduct horse-races on the day of , 19 , in accordance with the conditions hereunder written:—

  1. The said races shall take place on the [Insert description of racecourse], and not elsewhere.
  2. [Insert any further conditions which the Minister of Internal Affairs thinks fit to impose.]
  3. This license may be revoked at any time by the Minister of Internal Affairs by notice in the New Zealand Gazette.

Notice respecting Proposed Town District, Whakatane, County of Whakatane.

Wellington, 23rd February, 1914.
IT is hereby notified that a petition has been presented to His Excellency the Governor, under the Town Boards Act, 1908, praying that the area described in the Schedule hereto may be constituted a town district under the said Act, by name the Town District of Whakatane. All persons affected are hereby called upon to lodge any written objections to or petitions against the constitution of the said town district which they desire to lodge within one month from the first publication of this notice, such objections or petitions to be addressed to the Minister of Internal Affairs, Wellington.

SCHEDULE.
DESCRIPTION OF BOUNDARIES OF PROPOSED TOWN DISTRICT OF WHAKATANE.
ALL that area in the Auckland Land District bounded by a line commencing at a point on high-water mark of the Whakatane River in line with the northern boundary of Section No. 273, Waimana Parish; thence along a right line to and along the northern boundary of that section to its north-eastern corner; thence along the western boundary of Small Grazing-run No. 1 to the Waiewe Stream; thence south-easterly along that stream for a distance of 5 chains; thence southerly along a line parallel to and 5 chains distant from the eastern side of the Whakatane-Taneatua Road to Section No. 245a, Waimana Parish; thence along the north-eastern boundary of that section to its easternmost corner; thence along the south-eastern and south-western boundaries of the said section to a point 5 chains distant from the Whakatane-Taneatua Road; thence along a line parallel to and 5 chains distant from that road to a main road to Opotiki; thence along the northern side of that road to and across the said Whakatane-Taneatua Road; thence along the western side of the last-mentioned road to the south-eastern corner of Section No. 261; thence along the southern boundary of Sections Nos. 261 and 233, Waimana Parish, and across a road to a point on the eastern boundary of Section No. 8, 5 chains distant from the north-eastern corner of that section; thence along a line parallel to and 5 chains distant from the northern boundary of the said Section No. 8 to the road forming its western boundary; thence along the eastern side of the road forming the western boundaries of Sections Nos. 8, 226, 225, 6A, 5, and 4 to and across Landing Road; thence along the northern side of that road, and that side produced to high-water mark of the Whakatane River; and thence along high-water mark of that river to the place of commencement.

Fixing Date on which certain Returns under the Fire Brigades Act, 1908, are to be furnished.

Pursuant to section 22 of the Fire Brigades Act, 1908, it is hereby notified that the returns showing the total gross amount of the premiums received by or due to fire insurance companies during the year ended 31st December, 1913, shall be transmitted to the Fire Boards concerned, in the manner prescribed by the said section, on or before the 31st day of May, 1914.

IN pursuance of the power and authority conferred upon me by section 15 of the Land Act, 1908, I hereby authorize the laying-off of Moana Avenue, Pacific Road, Matai, Rata, and Hinemoa Streets, in the Town of Jarvis Extension No. 1, Southland Land District, of a width of not less than 66 ft., instead of 99 ft.

Notice as to Statutory Closing-day under the Shops and Offices Act, 1908.
WHEREAS the local authorities of the Boroughs of Hamilton and Frankton, comprising the combined District of Hamilton and Frankton, have failed to decide what working-day in the week shall be the statutory closing-day for shops in their district:
Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers in that behalf conferred upon me by section 15 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, I, William Ferguson Massey, Minister of Labour, do hereby appoint Wednesday to be the statutory closing-day for shops in the said combined District of Hamilton and Frankton.
