Three-quarters undulating, balance broken; about 60 acres manuka scrub, recently burnt; balance light mixed forest, comprising a few kahikatea and kauri rickers, a few small puriri, nikau, kohe-kohe, punga, &c., with light undergrowth of kiekie, supple-jack, &c. Soil of fair quality in forest, inferior clay on remainder of section, on slate formation; badly watered by swampy gully, which dries in summer. Distant six miles from Mangawai by cart-road partly metalled.

HOBSON COUNTY.—TE KURI SURVEY DISTRICT.

Soil of fair quality in swamp; inferior clay on remainder of section, on slate formation. Well watered by swampy spring. Distant eight miles from Whangarei by cart-road.

Altitude, 100 ft. to 300 ft. above sea-level. Undulating manuka country; the greater part of Section 58, and practically the whole of Sections 57 and 63, ploughable land. Soil inferior clay which has been well dug over for gum, resting on sandstone formation; Section 57 fairly watered by swamps; Section 58 poorly watered, but water can be obtained by sinking. Distant about six miles from Kau-kapakapa Railway-station, five miles of which is by formed road, balance track along spur, or six miles and a half from Silverdale Wharf by formed cart-road.

Altitude, 150 ft. to 300 ft. above sea-level. Very broken land, covered with fern and manuka; inferior clay soil, on sandstone formation; not watered, but water can be obtained by sinking. Distant about seven miles and a quarter from Takapuna, six miles and a half of which is by good coach-road, and three-quarters of a mile by track along ridge which will be formed shortly.

Opening Settlement Lands in Hawke’s Bay Land District for Selection.

LIVERPOOL, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, and the Land for Settlements Act, 1908, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare that the settlement lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for selection on renewable lease on Wednesday, the twenty-fifth day of March, one thousand nine hundred and fourteen, at the rentals mentioned in the said Schedule; and I do also declare that the said lands shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of the said Acts.

Block III—Section 3, £51 5s.; Section 4, £45; Section 5, £53 17s. 6d.; Section 6, £67 5s.; Section 7, £69 7s. 6d.; Section 8, £63 12s. 6d.; Section 9, £81 2s. 6d.; Section 11, £103 1s. 6d.; Section 12, £45 10s. Block IV—Section 4, £63 2s. 6d.; Section 5, £95 17s. 6d.; Section 6, £101 12s 6d.; Section 7, £69 17s. 6d.; Section 8, £7 2s. 6d.

The improvements which do not go with the sections, but which must be paid for separately, are as follows: Section 3, Block III—Three-roomed cottage, £60; shed (two rooms), £15; woolshed and yards, £250; veranda cottage (two rooms and bathroom), £125: total value, £450. Section 9, Block III—Woolshed and yards, £200; stable, £120; dip and yards, £15; house (four rooms), £155; sheds, £50: total value, £540. Section 6, Block IV—Residence and outbuildings (nine rooms), £700; cottage (two rooms), £50; iron implement-shed, £200; motor-shed, stables, slaughter shed and yards, £50: total value, £1,000. Section 7, Block IV—Cottage (three rooms), £110; shearers’ whare (two rooms), £40; woolshed, stable, and yards, £250: total value, £400.
