Notifying Lands in Canterbury Land District for Sale by Public Auction.

LIVERPOOL, Governor.

IN pursuance of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one-hundred-and-twenty-sixth section of the Land Act, 1908, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby appoint Wednesday, the eighteenth day of March, one thousand nine hundred and fourteen, as the time at which the lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be sold by public auction; and I do hereby fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold as those mentioned in the said Schedule hereto.

Waiau is situated on the Waiau River, in the midst of a closely settled district. With Culverden, sixteen miles distant, there is daily communication by coach or motor-bus. There is also a coach service to Kaikoura. The sections comprise level open land, with soil of good quality.

Opening Lands in Wellington Land District for Sale or Selection.

LIVERPOOL, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, having received the report of the Under-Secretary in this behalf, as provided by section one hundred and fifty-four of the said Act, do hereby declare that the lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on Wednesday, the twenty-ninth day of April, one thousand nine hundred and fourteen; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase, or on renewable lease; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of the Land Act, 1908.

FIRST-CLASS LAND.

Kaitieke County.—Hunua Survey District.—North Waimarino Block.

Situated on the Hikimutu—Owhango Road, the access being from Owhango, which is about seven miles distant by a formed dray-road. Mostly hilly land, with small portion undulating. Soil is of good quality, on papa formation. The forest is fairly heavy, and comprises rimu, matai, totara, kahikatea, maire, tawa, &c., with heavy undergrowth. Well watered by Hikimutu Stream. Elevation ranges from about 600 ft. to 800 ft. above sea-level.

SECOND-CLASS LAND.

Waimarino County.—Whirinaki Survey District.

Weighted with £25, valuation for felling and grassing.

Situated in the Riariaki-Mangatiti Block, the access being from Raetihi, which is about twenty-three miles distant by formed and partly metalled road for a distance of about seventeen miles, and by bridle-track for the remaining distance. Rough and hilly land, with a few small flats. Soil is of fairly good quality on papa and sandstone formation. The forest is fairly heavy, and comprises tawhero, tawa, rimu, rata, miro, hinau, &c., with dense undergrowth. Elevation ranges from 1,100 ft. to 2,000 ft. above sea-level.

Altitude, 240 ft. to 400 ft. above sea-level. About one-third swamp; balance undulating and hilly land, covered with fern and manuka. Soil peaty in swamp; inferior pipe-clay on hills, on clay subsoil; well watered by swampy stream. Distant one mile and a quarter from Maromaku Railway-station by formed cart-road.

Altitude, 240 ft. to 400 ft. above sea-level. About one-fourth peat and raupo swamp; balance undulating to hilly scrub land. Soil on hills inferior pipeclay on clay subsoil; well watered by swampy streams. Distant one mile and a half from Maromaku Railway-station by cart-road formed to within a few chains of section; balance unformed.

HOBSON COUNTY.—TE KURI PARISH.

Altitude, 1 ft. to 200 ft. above sea-level. About 80 acres peaty swamp; 80 acres undulating; balance broken; fern and manuka country. Soil of poor quality, peat in swamp, sandy on hills, on slate formation. Well watered by swampy springs. Distant three miles and a half from Tangaihe, by 6 ft. formed track, the greater part of which is under water at spring tides.
